Harrison Richard (Rick) Glenn, 42, El Dorado Springs, passed away at his home on Feb. 27, 2011. He was born in Kansas City, on June 4, 1968, to John and Donna May (Sweringson) Glenn.
Rick attended school in Kansas City. On Oct. 31, 1998, he married Lucretia Wooldridge. He worked for many years as a steel worker and served as shop foreman and union steward until he became disabled.
Rick was a loving and caring man and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a great sense of humor. Rick’s favorite hobby was fishing but his life revolved around his children.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Frankie, and a sister, Angel.
Survivors include: his wife, Lucretia - of the home; his mother, Donna Parks; his father, John Glenn; a son, Joseph Michale Glenn; a daughter, Callie Dawn Glenn; brothers - Jerry Lowe, Gary Lowe, Elmer Thomas Glenn, John Michael Glenn and Charles Collins – Kansas City, KS; sister, Eva Pearl Glenn, Cheryl West – Kansas City, KS, and Ruby Collins – of Missouri; and close friend, Marcus Reed. Also surviving is Chad Paul Carridine and many other relatives and friends.
The family will have a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the home on 1107 S. Forrest with dinner at 3 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations for last expenses may be made to the funeral home.

Gayland A. Quick
Gayland A. Quick, 58, El Dorado Springs, passed away Feb. 24, 2011, at Moore-Few Nursing Home in Nevada. He was born Aug. 17, 1952, to Lester B. and Thelma (Hensley) Quick in Warrensburg.
Gayland had lived in El Dorado Springs for the last few years and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers - Darryel, Larry, Lawrence, Lloyd, Alfred and Densil.
Survivors include eight brothers - Harold, Ralph, Basil, Rodney, Wendell, Gerald, Randy and Gary; two sisters, Diane Crawford and Patricia Sutton; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Evelyn Pauline Evans
Pauline Evans, 96, El Dorado Springs, passed away Feb. 23, 2011, at Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs after a short illness. The daughter of Frank Rutter and Nora (Breeze) Rutter, she was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Virgil City.
Pauline and her husband, Louis M. Evans, who preceded her in death (retired from the Air Force of 20 years), traveled all over the country. Pauline loved to talk about her travels.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donna L. True – of California; and three sons – Corky Pollard, David Pollard and Dwight Pollard – all of El Dorado Springs.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Dawn Pfeil – Modesto, CA, and Penny Pollard – El Dorado Springs; one son-in-law, Dave True – Turlock, CA; one sister, Dee Jaco – El Dorado Springs; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Kathy Dody – of El Dorado Springs.
Final disposition, crema-tion, under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs.
Pauline will be put to rest in Hughson, CA, on March 11, 2011.

Vera Jewell Barbour
Vera Jewell Barbour, 98, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. She was born July 30, 1912, in Roscoe to Edward Levi Luther and Zella Virgie Simmons Luther.
She married Homer Chester Barbour on Oct. 15, 1934, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1999.
Vera grew up in St. Clair County and attended the Stony Point Country School. She and her husband owned the grocery store in Richards for several years before returning to farming in the rural Nevada area. Vera was a member of the Richards Christian Church and a life-long member of the Eastern Star in Schell City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
She is survived by one daughter, Janie Loyd, and her husband, David - Nevada; two granddaughters, Sherry Hudson and her husband, Doug – Neosho, and Kristie Townsend and her husband, Brad – Clinton; four great-grandchildren – Shaun McConnaughey, Ryan McConnaughey and Cody McConnaughey – all of Neosho, and Taylor Townsend – Clinton; and one great-grandson, Noah McConnaughey.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 28, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Brother Melvin Mabra officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Taberville under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Robert Leo Charles
Robert Leo Charles, 92, Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Feb. 18, 2011, in his daughter’s home in Cleveland, OH. He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Harwood, Vernon County, to William Melville and Cora Lee Porter Charles.
He graduated from Harwood High School, Chillicothe Business College and attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, completing his tour of duty with the U.S. Third Army in Germany.
He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as Sales Manager after 41 years of railroad service.
Robert was married 6o years to Louella Frances Raymond Charles who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Sue, and son-in-law, Robert Madden; son, William, and daughter-in-law, Angela; granddaughter, Katy Charles; grandsons; Jeffrey Klubnik (Lisa) and Michael Klubnik (Beth); great-granddaughter, Kayley Klubnik; and great-grandson, Matthew Klubnik.

Tommy W. Postlewait
Tommy W. Postlewait, 83, El Dorado Springs, passed away Feb. 13, 2011, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. He was born May 1, 1927, in St. Clair County to Virgil and Lillian Dorthea (Wilcox) Postlewait. Tommy grew up in rural Osceola and Clinton, OK.
Tommy joined the Merchant Marines when he was 17 years of age, immediately following enlistment in the U.S. Army and later the U.S. Navy during WWII era. His military overseas tours took him to Germany and France.
He married Ruby Mooney in 1956 in Kansas City and they relocated to California. They owned and operated several businesses, including a very successful Shaklee dealership where they earned new cars and trips for several consecutive years. When Ruby’s health deteriorated, Tommy cared for her at home until her death.
Following Ruby’s death, Tommy retired and moved back to Osceola to live with his widowed sister, Maggie Lee Greathouse.
Later in life, Tommy gave his heart to the Lord and he became a faithful supporter of his church in tithes and offerings, even insisting that his plumbing crew tithe 10% to his church. He loved going to church and dearly loved all the people at Herriman Chapel Church of God (Holiness).
Tommy enjoyed golfing, camping and playing guitars. He had a great love for music and played in several bands and at church until he was no longer able to do so.
Tommy had many friends and family members in Missouri as will as friends in California that he talked to weekly. Cena Jones and her husband had been very close friends of both Ruby and Tommy in California. During a phone conversation to Cena, who was a widow, Tommy invited her for a visit to Missouri for a week. The two married in 2001 and enjoyed a few happy years together, traveling, visiting and playing Skipbo, until their health began to deteriorate to the point they could no longer maintain a marriage.
He leaves behind five nieces and two nephews - Ida Ruth Tucker - Independence, Mary Lillian Sisseck – Deerfield, J.V. Greathouse - Harding, IL, Bonnie Carol Query - Nevada, Brenda Lee Dilly - Deerfield, Betty Jean Yockey - El Dorado Springs, and Thom Greathouse - Las Vegas, NV. Tommy Postlewait was the last member of this Postlewait lineage.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola with Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. David Woods officiating. Music was Look For Me and Home, Sweet Home by the Greathouse family.

Celia Ophelia Bush
Celia Ophelia (Waugh) Bush, 94, of Walker, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Christian Health Care Center in Nevada. She was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Cedar County, Missouri, to Isaac and Mabel (Neely) Waugh.
She was a graduate of El Dorado Springs High School. She married Herman Delbert Bush on Aug. 8, 1936. After their marriage, they moved to a farm north of Walker and also resided in the Ketterman and Schell City areas before moving to their final home east of Walker in 1959. Celia enjoyed taking care of the farm animals, growing flowers, sewing, and cooking for her family.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Lloyd Waugh; her sister, Hedia Waugh Gee; her husband Herman; her infant daughter, Barbara; and her daughter-in-law, Glenda.
Survivors include her son, Joe Bush – Walker: her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dan DeLancey - Kansas City; her granddaughter, Becky Cooper and husband, Eric; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Jake Cooper - of El Dorado Springs; and Mollie, her faithful Border Collie companion.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home; with a visitation before the service from 1-2 p.m. Lester Thornton will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Leslie V. Huckaby
Leslie V. Huckaby, 57, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2011, at his home in Calumet, IA. Les was the son of John Bassett Huckaby and Mildred Huckaby Davis.
He was born May 10, 1953, in Watervliet, MI. His family moved to Missouri when he was seven years old. He moved to El Dorado Springs when he was a teen and attended high school here.
Les was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He served two tours in Vietnam, the first as a mechanic and the second as a helicopter gunman.
Les leaves two sons, Kyle Huckaby - Larrabee, IA, and Colton Huckaby - Sutherland, IA; seven brothers - Steve Huckaby - El Dorado Springs, Larry Huckaby - Kansas City, Don Huckaby - El Dorado Springs, Alan Huckaby - Clinton, James Huckaby –Warsaw, and Ron Huckaby - Bates City; and one sister, Lynda Bishop - El Dorado Springs.

Gary Lee Brandell
Gary Lee Brandell, 53, Walker, went to be with Jesus on Feb. 10, 2011. He was born in Sacramento, CA, on Jan. 14, 1958, to Douglas Dale Brandell and Joyce Kay (Endicott) Brandell Fitz, who preceded him in death.
Gary married his high school sweetheart, Vicky Lynn Collins, on June 14, 1975. Two children were born to their 35-year union, Angela Christina (Brandell) Dobbs and Nicholas Lee Brandell.
Gary was a member of The First Assembly of God Church in El Dorado Springs and helped teach a Wednesday night boys' class.
Gary loved his family and worked hard to provide a good life for them. His carpenter skills and creative talent was evident in the homes he built. He was a generous man and spoke with pride about his daughter, Angela. He taught the drywall finishing skill to several men, including his son, Nick.
Gary was the happiest when he was camping or fishing with his family. He also had a passion for deer hunting and never missed getting a deer.
He spent many years as a member of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades. He served as the Business Representative of Local Union 203 in Springfield for three years, completing classes at the Union Labor Law College in Maryland.
Survivors include his daughter, Angela Christina Dobbs and husband, Scott – Hobe Sound, FL; his son, Nicholas Lee Brandell – El Dorado Springs; three brothers – Dennis Brandell and wife, Karen - Stockton, Mark Brandell - Stockton, Clinton Brandell - Jerico Springs; a sister, Amanda Savage – Stockton; and a four-year-old granddaughter, Chelsea Nicole Brandell, the bright spot in Gary’s life.
His absence from this life is heaven’s gain and he will be greatly missed.
Services were held Feb. 15 at the First Assembly of God Church in El Dorado Springs with Dana Taylor officiating. Sherice Norman and the First Assembly of God Worship Team provided music. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Samuel Melvin Green
Samuel Melvin Green, 81, El Dorado Springs, departed this life on Feb. 10, 2011, in Cedar County Memorial Hospital with his wife, Fern, and daughter, Sheila Ann, at his side.
Sam was born Nov. 2, 1929, not far from the present city limits of Stockton, in an area now covered by the waters of Stockton Lake. Sam was the sixth of eight children born to John Franklin and Katie Ethelbelle (Culver) Green.
In 1947, Sam moved to California where he worked in the farming industry and later in the industrial area of southern
California. He became a journeyman welder and all-around maintenance man for Rome Cable in Torrance, CA. He worked there for almost 30 years before moving back to Missouri where he had previously bought his 30-acre home site.
In 1950, Sam married Shelia Johnson in California and one daughter, Sheila Ann, was born to this union.
Later that year Sam was called into the US Army and served in Korea. He was wounded three times and was on active duty until the end of the war. Due to his wounds, Sam received two Purple Hearts and the French Salutation from France.
With his second wife, Juanita, Sam had two daughters: Rhonda and Lannie. Lannie died at the age of five.
After Juanita’s death, Sam married Yvetta Fern Foraker in El Dorado Springs on July 7, 1979. No children were born to their marriage but Sam was a loving father to Fern’s three children - Sharon, Tamara and Kevin Minton.
Sam had a life-long relationship with God and was a member of the Living Church of God of Charlotte, NC. He was a thoughtful person, honest and a hard worker at whatever he set out to do. He single-handedly built his barn, made additions to the family home and excelled at everything he did. He and Fern enjoyed hiking, fishing and camping. Around his home, Sam enjoyed his garden and flowers and kept his lawn mowed to perfection.
Preceding Sam in death were his parents; a daughter, Lannie; two sisters, Goldie Brown and Emma Lee Lawrence; and his younger brother, Jack.
Survivors include his wife, Fern - of the home; two children, Sheila Ann White and Rhonda Green; three step-children - Sharon, Tamara and Kevin Minton; several grand-children and great-grandchildren; three sisters - Mildred Clark - Kansas City, Aleene Houston - El Dorado Springs, and Nixola (Bud) Olinger - El Dorado Springs; and one brother, Charles (Myrtle) - Pleasant Hill.
Sam will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services were held on Monday, Feb. 14, at the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs, with Dana Taylor and Howard McPeak officiating. Burial followed at Hazel Dell Cemetery. Pallbearers were - Jeremy White, Dennis Taylor, Robert Olinger, Bud Olinger and Bob Shourt.

Harold Samuel Tucker
Harold Samuel Tucker, 67, Schell City, the son of Harold F. and Harriett (Curran) Tucker was born July 19, 1943, in Independence and passed from this life at 5:01 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the North Kansas City Hospital in Kansas City.
Sam attended Kansas City public schools and in 1961 entered the United States Navy. He later returned home to the Kansas City area and worked for the Leeds Plant.
About 40 years ago, he and Shirley made Schell City their home while still spending time in Kansas City for employment. Schell City became their permanent home in 1990. Through the years, Sam worked as a tile setter and truck driver. His hobbies included fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; and his oldest son, Steve, who passed away Sept. 7, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley – of the home in Schell City; one son, Brian Tucker and Melissa – Gladstone; two daughters, Beth Baker and Tom – Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, and Patty Humphrey and Randy – Harwood; one brother, Dan Tucker – Fergus Falls, MN; two sisters, Stella Tracy – Chillicothe, and Donna Vieth – Osage City; seven grandchildren – Lakyn, Taryn, Matthew, Greg, Nicholas, Tesla and Kenzie; one great-granddaughter, Willow; several very special nieces and nephews; and a host of many friends.
Services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Bro. Paul Thorade officiating.
Pallbearers were – Brian Tucker, John Courtney, Walt Koshko, Broc Koshko, Lucas Quamme and Rick Shaffer. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
Sam attended Kansas City public schools and in 1961 entered the United States Navy. He later returned home to the Kansas City area and worked for the Leeds Plant.
About 40 years ago, he and Shirley made Schell City their home while still spending time in Kansas City for employment. Schell City became their permanent home in 1990. Steve Petkoff
Steve Petkoff, 91, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away on Feb. 3, 2011, in Odessa. He was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Hobart, OK. He was the son of George Petkoff Sr. and Rose Ratkoff Petkoff.
He graduated from High School in Hobart, OK, in 1939.
In 1941, he married Mary Magdeline George in Helena, AR.
Steve was a member of the greatest generation, enlisting in the United States Army and serving during World War II. During the war, he fought for his country in Italy and France and took part in the historic Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he joined the firm of Rinehart and Donovan and worked constructing power lines for the Rural Electrification Administration (REA). In 1951, he went to work for KAMO Electric in Neosho and then was transferred to El Dorado Springs.
Steve was promoted to superintendent of operations for KAMO in Cleveland, OK, in 1967. He retired from KAMO in 1983 and remained in Cleveland until the summer of 2007 when he moved to Broken Arrow, OK, to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
Steve was a generous individual sharing his considerable construction and electrical knowledge with neighbors, friends and relatives. He spent many hours helping maintain the property at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cleveland where he was an active member. In addition to helping others with their needs, he enjoyed children, fishing, playing pinochle, watching televised St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games, viewing college and professional football contests and raising a large garden, always sharing the garden’s bounty with his neighbors.
Steve was a long-time member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. At the time of his death, Steve was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Broken Arrow, OK.

He is survived by his son, James Steven Petkoff and wife, Sharon - Bates City, and a daughter, Jane Susan Marquardt and her husband, Ron - Broken Arrow, OK; four grandchildren - Tracy Bell (Darrell), Rob Petkoff, Mark Marquardt (Hajira) and Rick Marquardt (Julianne); eight great-grandchildren - Barrett, Kendall, Kenzie Bell, Justin and Andi Petkoff, and Adam, Alexandra and Katherine Marquardt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Cleveland, OK, with burial in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, OK, under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
