Joan T. Moeller


Joan T. Moeller, Denison, IA, 74, formerly of El Dorado Springs, was born Sept. 26, 1934, the daughter of Christian and Anna Walter Weinbrandt. She died Friday, July 24, 2009, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, IA.

Joan was born in Vail, IA. She was baptized in Christ on Dec. 12, 1934, by Rev. William Frese and confirmed on April 10, 1949, by Rev. Carl Schmidt, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She attended country schools and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1952. After graduation she remained at home to help her father on the farm until 1958 when he retired and they moved to Denison. She then did babysitting until she was married.

On June 9, 1962, Joan was united in marriage to Richard Martin Moeller in Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Carl Schmidt. The couple made their home in Denison. Shortly thereafter they started Moeller Soft Water. In May of 1968, they moved their business to Cherokee, IA, where they were living when their son, Brian, was born. They moved back to Denison in 1969 and she was the office manager for Moeller Soft Water. In 1983 the family moved to Missouri where Joan was a cook’s assistant at Camp Galilee and then worked at Hagels Shirt Factory, both in El Dorado Springs. Once again they returned to Denison in 1987. After the death of her husband on April 17, 1989, she began working at West Central Development Corp. During this time she worked at West Central Outreach Office, Beyond Dreams Head Start School, Iowa Work Force Development and Crawford County Human Services. She worked part-time at J.C. Penney Company in Denison in the 1990s until retiring in July 2003.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting and having coffee with her family and friends. Activities she enjoyed included sewing, making quilts, reading and doing word-seek puzzles. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, and his parents, Violet and Robert Moeller; two brothers, Donald and Gerald Weinbrandt; a sister-in-law, LaMae Miller, and her husband, Raymond; and a brother-in-law Robert Moeller.

Survivors include: one son, Brian Richard Moeller - El Dorado Springs; one granddaughter, Kylie Ann Moeller - El Dorado Springs; one sister, Norma Meister, and her husband, Orville - Wall Lake, IA; one brother, Roger Weinbrandt, and his wife, Lorraine - Denison; and four sisters-in-law, Maxine Weinbrandt - Denison, Charlene (Moeller) Iversen, and her husband, Howard – Vail, IA, Maxine (Moeller) Hansohn - Bettendorf, IA, and Sharon (Moeller) Bandow, and her husband, Charles - Denison; other relatives and friends.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, IA, with Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiating. Interment will be at Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, IA, under the direction of Huebner Funeral Home, Denison, IA.
