Richard Leo Green

Richard Leo Green, 28, the El Dorado Springs Centennial Baby, died unexpectedly in his sleep at his home in Raleigh, NC, on May 25, 2010, after suffering from seizures.

Richard was only 28 years old and this was three years to the day after his grandfather’s (Ralph Leo Green) funeral and cousin Victor’s death.

After Richard’s birth, his father joined the military and Richard spent the greater portion of his youth moving around the world. He spoke German as his childhood language and continued to study it in college. Richard graduated high school in St. Pauls, NC, with honors and attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.

Richard was the Assistant Computer Information Technology Systems Administrator for the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at North Carolina State University and University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He ensured the staff and doctoral students’ computer hardware systems, as well as the networks, were always running and helped with presentations and other software related issues.

Richard was characterized by North Carolina State co-workers as having a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. His high school classmates had described him repeatedly as being smart, quiet, private and unique. He didn’t worry about what other people thought about him going against the grain and often said he would wear something other than black when they came out with something darker. Richard was someone who always stood by his friends when needed and was fiercely loyal to those he cared about. He will be deeply missed and leaves a large hole in many people’s lives.

Richard is survived by his parents, Danny Leo and Teresa Green - currently stationed at Scott Air Force Base, IL; his sister, Melissa Green - Greensboro, NC; and brother, Johnny Leo Green - LeMoore Naval Air Station, CA; his grandparents, Frances Heinlein - Parkton, NC, Edward and Jaccey Heinlein - Mimosa Beach, Betty and Larry Floyd - El Dorado Springs, and Janet Green - El Dorado Springs.

A memorial service was held in Parkton, NC, on May 29.

Services began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Bland-Hackleman Chapel with burial in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery near his grandfather Leo. Rev. Brent Bland officiated. Pallbearers were - Danny Green, Johnny Green, Kent Sibley, Kirk Sibley, Richard Walker and Dustin Walker. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help purchase a monument.
