Marjorie Geneveve Vilhauer Witt

Marjorie Geneveve Vilhauer Witt, 85, El Dorado Springs passed away on Aug. 17, 2010, at The Maples in Springfield. She was born Dec. 14, 1924, to Roy Lee and Bessie Belle Morlan Vilhauer.

Marjorie was raised on a farm in the Blackjack area.

Marjorie accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior at the Holiness Church in Blackjack at an early age. During later life, she was a loyal member of the Church of Christ in El Dorado Springs. She enjoyed working in the church until her health no longer permitted that activity.

Marjorie married Joe Stanley Witt on March 6, 1946. Marjorie and Joe spent most of their lives in the El Dorado Springs and Kansas City areas. They owned and operated several filling stations and a tire recapping business.

They very much enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively during their lives.

Marjorie was an extremely skilled secretary and worked for several businesses during her life. The position she was most proud of was her employment as executive secretary for the general manager of the John Deere regional offices in Kansas City. She retired from that position in 1981.

The family has many fond memories of those special trips to go visit with Uncle Joe and Aunt Margie. The girls would usually spend time visiting and shopping while the guys would hang around the station. We especially remember those times around the holidays when the family would gather together. Aunt Margie always made those times special.

In later years, Marjorie very much enjoyed the visits from James and Matthew Rogers. To them, she was more like grandma than a neighbor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. Witt, her parents, Roy L. and Bessie B. Morlan Vilhauer, numerous brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Surviving family includes a brother, Norman Vilhauer - El Dorado Springs; a sister, Arleta Edwards – Springfield; nieces, Diann and Denny Eisman, Linda and Mike Mann, Gloria and Conrad Smith; and a nephew, Stan and Nelmay Vilhauer; a brother-in-law, Lester Witt; sister-in-laws, Lorene Witt and Lorraine Sands and their families.
