Gary Ralph Miles

Gary Ralph Miles, 62, East Lynne, was born Oct. 20, 1948, in Independence, the son of William Benjamin and Dortha (Kugler) Miles. He departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

On March 24, 2002, Gary was united in marriage to Mary Jean Slate in Las Vegas, NV.

Gary was employed as a service technician for Fair Point Telephone Company and had earlier been employed by Contel, GTE and Casstel.

He was a member of South Summit Christian Church in Lee’s Summit, and the CWA Union. He enjoyed his family, playing with his grandchildren the outdoors and gardening. Gary will be remembered for being Jeannie’s best friend, being called Dad and Grandpa. He had lived in Garden City, before moving to East Lynne in December of 2005.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Jacob Miles.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jeannie Miles - of the home; a son, Telly R. Miles - Holden; three daughters - Gari Ann Waugh and husband, Mike - Pleasant Hill, Abbi Haak and husband, Mitchell - Holden, and Courtney Miles - Creighton; a step-son, Shawn Vaughan - Columbia; 13 grandchildren; five brothers - Max Miles - Harrisonville, Bill Miles - Willard, Gene Miles - Holden, Earl Miles - Wentzville (formerly of El Dorado Springs), and Richard Miles - Warrensburg; four sisters - Joy Stoll - Garden City, Sondra Strubel - Windsor, Gail Fitzwater - Climax Springs, Karen Folk - Harrisonville; other relatives and many friends. 

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Dickey Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Charles Rolen officiating and burial in the Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville.

Honorary bearers were Gary’s grandchildren - Clayton, Jacob, Mason, Sidney, Daphne, Dakota, Colten, Brody, Rylee, Sean, Brayden, Dalton, Blake. Casketbearers were - Max Miles, Bill Miles, Gene Miles, Earl Miles, Richard Miles, Michael Slate, Robbie Slate and Carl Slate.
