Merrill Waldron Buckles

Merrill Waldron Buckles, 72, Amarillo, TX, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away April 14, 2003.

Mr. Buckles was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Kiowa, KS, to Dwight Eli and Gladys Alva Hendricks Buckles. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Amarillo Police Department from 1955 to 1959, was director of the Amarillo Animal Shelter from 1959 to 1976, and a deputy with Potter County Sheriff's Office from 1976 to 1990. He was a member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge and Mescalero Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle, of the home; two daughters, Susan Dunlap and Cynthia Fesler - both of Amarillo, TX; seven sons - Daniel Buckles and Paul Buckles - both of Amarillo, TX, Steve Buckles - Pontotoc, MS, Patrick Scott - Canyon, TX, Chuck Scott - Lewiston, ID, Bill Scott - Amarillo, TX, and Jim Scott - Amarillo, TX; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Buckles - Kansas; one sister - Mauricia and her husband, Roy Reeves - Kansas; and two special friends, Linda Henry and Erin Smitherman - both of Canyon, TX.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1991; his mother in 1994; and an infant sister in 1928.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Mescalero Baptist Church, with Rev. Kevin Oakley, pastor, officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Mescalero Baptist Church parking lot fund.

Madalyn Hallie Brown Corbin,

Madalyn H. Brown Corbin, 95, Golden, CO, passed away April 5, 2003, at Bear Creek Health Care Facility in Morrison, CO. She was born March 3, 1908, in Kansas to Albert and Bessie (Callahan) Brown. She was a resident of Colorado since 1917 and had lived in Golden since 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Torrence White Corbin; a son, Henry Huffham "Hank" Corbin; a daughter, Carmen Luann (Corbin) Moreland; a grandson, Henry Richard "Rick" Corbin; a great-great-grandson, Torrence White Corbin II; and a son-in-law, Bill Bennetts.

She is survived by her son, Dean Corbin and his wife, Ruthie - Harrisonville; daughters, Dixie Bennetts - Fruita, CO, Arlene Munyon and her husband, Jess - Golden, CO, and Virginia Durbin and her husband, Lee - Golden, CO; son-in-law, R.C. Moreland - Idaho; 20 grandchildren, including Rhonda Wallen - El Dorado Springs, Renn Corbin - Schell City, and Randy Corbin - Carl Junction; 53 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, April 9, at Olinger Woods Chapel, 1100 Washington Avenue, Golden, CO, with granddaughter, Diana Morgan officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons - Rock Bennetts, Doug Bennetts, Jim Bennetts, Chris Bennetts, Randy Corbin, Renn Corbin, Leon Durbin, Keith Moreland, Robert Munyon and Monty Munyon, with burial in Pleasant Park Cemetery, Conifer, CO.

In lieu of flowers, contribu¬tions were suggested to Volunteers of America, Meals on Wheels, 8755 West 14th Avenue, Lakewood, CO 80215.

Lucy Louisa Burns

Lucy Louisa Burns, 88, El Dorado Springs, the daughter of William Arthur and Mattie Martha Purtle, was born on Sept. 17, 1914, in St. Clair County and after a long illness, passed away Wednesday morning, April 2, 2003, at Rest Haven in El Dorado Springs.

On March 4, 1933, she was united in marriage to Alton Burns. To this union were born four sons - Charles Ray, Donald Wayne, Bobby Alton, who died at two days old, and Terry Lynn.

She enjoyed helping Alton on the farm doing anything that had to be done, in addition to being a mother to three energetic boys. Lucy also enjoyed working in the garden, making quilts and growing flowers. Al¬ton and Lucy moved in town to El Dorado Springs in January of 1984.

She is survived by three sons and their wives - Charles Ray and Pat, Donald Wayne and Barbara, and Terry Lynn and Linda; two brothers - Calvin and Floyd - all of El Dorado Springs; four sisters - Zephie Ellerman, Mable Goodwin and Minnie Burns - all of El Dorado Springs, and Allene Baker - Springfield; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant son, Bobby Alton; a grandson, Stevie Burns; and a great-grandson, Michael Mark.

Services were held Saturday, April 5, at the Church of God (Holiness) with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Musical selections were provided by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Goodwin and Wanda Casey. Interment was in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Jeff Burns, Mike Burns, Paul Burns, John Burns, Barry Burns, Shane Pattison, Mike Mark, Greg Nichols, Alfred Riggins and Benny Brower.

Louella Frances Raymond Charles

Louella Frances Raymond Charles, 82, Winston-Salem, N.C., formerly of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away Sat¬urday, March 29, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 25, 1920, in Fowler, IN, to Arthur and Golda Kimberlin Raymond.

Mrs. Charles was a member of Burkhead United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C. Her schooling was at El Dorado Springs.
She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her hus¬band, Robert L. Charles, of the home; one daughter, Sue Mad¬den and husband, Robert - Strongsville, OH; one son, William Charles and wife, An¬gela - Winston-Salem; three grandchildren - Katy Charles, Jeffrey Klubnik and Michael Klubnik; two great-grandchil¬dren - Kayley and Matthew; and one sister, Ruby Lewman - Liberty.

Services were Monday, March 31, at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Kathie Sherrill officiating, entombment followed under the direction of Vogler and Sons Renolda Road Chapel, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Edna Murl Bourland

Edna Murl Bourland, 87, daughter of Wesley Lawrence and Mable (Calvird) Zeiler, was born Aug. 22, 1915, in St. Clair County and departed this life March 27, 2003, at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home, Appleton City.

Murl and Forrest Bourland were united in marriage on Jan. 27, 1936, in Lowry City. To this union one son, Ronald, was born.

The Bourlands were very hard workers doing a great deal of gardening. They could often be seen selling fruit and vegetables in the city park. Murl spent many loving hours caring for her grandchildren, guiding and teaching them in her special way.

Mrs. Bourland was very faithful in her attendance to the Church of God (Holiness) in Appleton City. She taught Sunday School, led a Bible study and enjoyed singing the old Gospel songs. She was always a willing worker and enjoyed helping at church functions. Murl always had a smile and a cheerful, kind word for those she met on the street. She was never too busy or in too much of a hurry to stop to visit. She was truly a faithful servant of Christ throughout her life.

Murl was preceded in death by her parents; her son; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest, of the home; two grandchildren - Rick Bourland - Appleton City, and Brenda and her husband, Greg Smythers - Durham, NC; and six great-grandchildren - Brandon, Kelsey and Emily Smythers, Colby, Katie and Colton Bourland.

Services were held Sunday, March 30, at the Church of God (Holiness), Appleton City, with Rev. Bob Fenwick officiating. Musical selections, "In The Garden" and "The Crystal Foun¬tain," were provided by vocalist Chris Heiserman, accompanied by organist, Mary Ann Crowder and pianist, Patricia Ashley.

Casketbearers were Rick Bourland, Colby Bourland, Dud¬ley Heiserman, Chris Heiserman, Mark Ashley and Doug Snodgrass. Interment was in the Appleton City City Cemetery, Appleton City, under the direction of Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City. Memorials may be made to the Church of God (Holiness) Appleton City.

Michael James Eaton

Michael James Eaton, 22, Willard, died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident west of El Dorado Springs on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. His mother, Carol Denmark, also died in that accident.

He was born Oct. 8, 1980, with his twin sister, Alyson, in Fayetteville, AR.

He worked as a certified medical aide at Bristol Manor, Willard. He was an avid music lover, lived each day to the fullest and was a wonderful worker with children, as his many nieces and nephews knew full well. He liked "hanging out" with his twin, Allie. He had a never-ending smile and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sister, Alyson (Benjamin) Cowan - state of Missouri; two step-sisters - Marina Denmark - Goodman, and Amy (Jeremy) Mounce - state of Illinois; three step-brothers - Rick (Sheila) Denmark - Goodman, Brian (Verna) Denmark - Joplin, and Jim (Tara) Denmark - state of Illinois; three aunts - Teresa Summers, Renee Jones and Janice Duggar - all of Missouri; nine special nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death, along with his mother, by his father and one infant brother, William Martinez Longshoremenmesics.

Interment was Monday, March 31, at Liberty Cemetery near Fellows Lake, Springfield, with Pastor Tony Intessimonie officiating. Pallbearers included Rick Denmark, Brian Denmark, Jim Denmark, Jeremy Mounce and Joseph Cowan.

Carol Ann Denmark

Carol Ann Denmark, 48, Willard, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident on Hwy. 54 west of El Dorado Springs. Her twin son, Michael Eaton, also died in the same accident.

She was born Dec. 9, 1954, in Springdale, AR, to Artie Fred and Johnnie Mae Eaton. She worked as the district man¬ager for Bristol Manor in Willard.

She married Richard Duane Denmark on Dec. 31, 1997. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2002. Carol had many friends and enjoyed many activities and was appreciated for her warmth with people, especially with the elderly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include, her daughter, Alyson (Benjamin) Cowan, from the state of Missouri; two step-daughters, Marina Denmark - Goodman, and Amy (Jeremy) Mounce - state of Illinois; three step-sons - Rick (Sheila) Denmark - Goodman, and Brian (Verna) Denmark - Joplin, and Jim (Tara) Denmark - state of Illinois; three sisters - Teresa Summers, Renee Jones and Janice Duggar - all of Missouri; nine grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
