Mary Lucille (Wells) Gilmore, 84, the daughter of Francis Marion and Lillie Edith (Gamble) Wells, was born Aug. 29, 1927, Walker and passed from this life at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Mary attended school in Schell City, graduating with the class of 1945. She worked for a time at what was then known as the Nevada State Hospital.
On July 27, 1942, she was united in marriage to Almon Edward Ogle and to their union two children were born. He passed away Jan. 3, 1964. Later she married George Andrew Gilmore and together they had one daughter.
Mary lived much of her life in Missouri but for a time did live in Iowa. She lived mostly in El Dorado Springs and was employed at the International Shoe Company for 19 years. She attended cosmetology school in the 1960s only to find out that was not the career for her. In later years she and George moved to Adrian, but spent most winters in California and Arizona.
Her hobbies included a love of reading, crossword puzzles, Bingo and the Game Show Network.
Mary was saved at an early age and was a member of the United Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs.
Survivors include her son, Everette Ogle and his wife – Donna of Moundville; one daughter, Della Underwood, and her husband – Buddy of Ellington; two brothers, Bob Wells and his wife – Dorothea of Schell City; and Harry Wells and his wife – Carol of Butler; four sisters – Bettie Fox of Schell City, Cordy Reed of Adrian, June Gardner of Raytown and Dorothy Vantellman and her husband, Sam of Schell City; six grandchildren – Kim Whitesell, Amber Jenkins, Felicia Love, Tera Underwood, Roy Love and Tearstin Ogle; five great- grandchildren – Kesha Hurley, Dakota Patterson, Tristen Patterson, Eain McKinney and Justice Love; and one great- great grandson, Gavin Hurley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillie and Hazel; and her beloved daughter, Misty Dawn Vann who passed away Aug. 3, 2011.
Services were held Friday, Sept 16, at the Schell City Christian Church with Bro.
Grady Davis officiating. Musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great
Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Mike Reed, Bill Reed, Randy Reed, David Hill, Dennis
Vantellman and Doug Vantellman. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Fox and Jerry Gardner.
Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. Memorials are suggested to the family. Arrangements for Mrs. Gilmore were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
