Randall Lee Barger

Randall Lee Barger, 50, called “Randy” by family, “Bagger” by friends, was born Oct. 1, 1960, in Nevada, and passed from this life on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, after a lengthy illness. He was the only son born to Albert Lee and Norma June (Teague) Barger.

Randy grew up fishing and hunting with his dad. After graduating from El Dorado Springs High School in 1979, he moved to Texas with some of his buddies, working as a landscaper. He relocated from there to Kansas City, then Arkansas where he worked for Tyson before moving back home to El Dorado Springs. He then worked for TLT Wire and built houses.

He became ill in 2002-2003 with acute pancreatitis and, after surgery, was an insulin dependent diabetic. Those who knew Randy knew he could be the most loving man, the best friend, brother and son and, at the same time, knew he could be as stubborn as a mule. The last few years, as his health declined, his sister, Karen, took him to all of his appointments and both sisters cared for him. They were with him while he took his final breath singing him the songs they knew as children sitting in the church pew with family.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous other relatives and friends.

He is survived by his older sister, Kim Nimmo – Schell City; his younger sister, Karen Gooden – Nevada; his step-mother, Barbara; step-brother, David, and his wife, Melody; step-sister, Linda, and her husband, Steve; and a brother-in-law, Homer; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

“You never though you would make it to ‘50’ but you did it big brother. I love you and I will miss you dearly.”

A memorial service for Randy (Bagger) Barger will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the Fellowship Hall of the Assembly of God Church at the Corner of Park and Freeman. Friends and family please come and share a story. Nothing fancy; come as you are.

Donations will be appreciated for Randy’s final expenses.

Hazel Orene McCormick

Hazel Orene (Taylor) McCormick, 93, El Dorado Springs, daughter of Bessie May (Wright) Taylor King and Rennie Amos Taylor, was born Jan. 7, 1917, on a farm near Preston, in Hickory County. She passed away Oct. 21, 2010, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Bessie and Rennie were the parents of three children - Hazel, Edith and Rowena. After Rennie passed away at an early age, Bessie married Joseph E. King who thought of her children as his own.

Most of Hazel’s life was lived in Cedar County. She attended school in El Dorado Springs. On Nov. 3, 1934, at the age of 17, she married Estal Floyd (Jack) McCormick and to this union six children were born - Estal, Don, Sam, Dolores, Darlene and Jerry.

Hazel and Jack raised their family on a farm outside of El Dorado Springs until Jack’s health began to fail. They moved to town and Hazel went to work for the International Shoe Co. She was a dedicated employee for 18 years until the plant closed in 1981. Hazel spent the rest of her time helping her kids and taking care of her grandchildren. She lived on her own until her failing health required her to move to Harrisonville to be with her daughter, Dolores, who lovingly cared for her until her final days.

Hazel’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was the happiest helping her kids and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved to sew and spent many hours making quilts for each family member which they will cherish forever.
She never missed a sporting event or a graduation. Her family’s accomplishments were important to her. She enjoyed going to Branson on many occasions. Hazel was a loving, caring mother and grandmother and in return was so loved and respected by her family.

Hazel was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of El Dorado Springs and attended faithfully until her health declined. She loved the Lord and her church family was important to her.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; her children - Estal, Sam and Darlene; and her sisters, Edith and Rowena.

She is survived by her daughter, Dolores; her sons, Don and Jerry, and wife, Donna; nine grandchildren - Becky, Missy, Mike, Doug, Cammy, Sam, Darrin, Melissa and Michael; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends.
Hazel will be remembered as a loving, Christian mother, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Wendell Daniel officiating. Interment followed in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were - Don Mc-Cormick, Jerry McCormick, Sammy McCormick, Michael McCormick, Doug Mc-Cormick, Darrin Duffey, Brent Duffey and Justin Gould. Honorary pallbearers were - Melissa Gould, Melissa Sawyer, Morgan McCormick, Cammy Bailey and Rebecca Granger.

O. Lavone Scott 'Sis'

O. Lavone Scott “Sis”, 87, Kansas City, KS, passed away Oct. 21, 2010, at her home.

She lived her life with grace and believed that the best was always ahead. When most people would have folded under the pain and grief that so often came her way, she did not waver – in fact, she held us all close and promised a brighter tomorrow.

Her laugh was infectious, her compassion unending, her resolve inspiring.

To you, she was the special neighbor, the dear friend, the older sister who could make sense of disorder, the aunt that completed the family and gave it heart and soul.

To me, she was Mom and so much more. She was my best friend.

I know someday she will take my hand again and I will thank the heavens for that glorious reunion.

Thank you, Mom, Sis, Lavon for loving us. Rest now, dear lady.

Lavone was preceded in death by her son, William Randy Scott; her husband, George T. Scott; and her parents, Richard and Ethel Craven.

Survivors include her son, Donald Scott; brother, Robert Ual Craven, and niece, Joy Dobbs, and husband, Rick, and their sons, Travis and Lucas Dobbs.

Private graveside services were held on Monday, Oct. 25, at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Wilda Jean Hill

Wilda Jean Hill, 72, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield. She was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Tiffin, to William J. and Jessie C. (Hays) Oehring.

Wilda graduated high school at Appleton City. She worked for several years at the International Shoe Factory in El Dorado Springs. Later she worked as a barkeeper.

She was married to Virgil (Sonny) Hill and to this union one son was born, Sonny Jean Hill.

Gardening was a joy to Wilda, especially working with flowers. In later years she loved garage sales and enjoyed visiting and being with people.

Preceding Wilda in death were her parents; her son, Sonny Jean, in 2006; her sister, Shirley Zinn; and Virgil (Sonny) Hill.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Oehring, and wife, Rebecca - El Dorado Springs, and Howard Oehring, and wife, Connie - Greenfield; two uncles, Robert (Bob) Oehring and Jack Oehring, and wife, Lucille - all of El Dorado Springs; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Bland-Hackleman Chapel. Rev. Brent Bland and Rev. Larry Wheeler will officiate. Interment will follow in Taberville Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be - Michael Ray, Dennis Ray, Steven Oehring, Donald Hamilton, Edd Bartkoski and Jerry Craven.

Clara Muriel Adams Hammer

Clara Muriel Adams Hammer, 96, Kennewick, WA, passed away Oct. 18, 2010. Muriel was born July 14, 1914, in the home of her parents, E.R. and Gertrude Adams, in Cedar County.

Muriel was saved as a young girl and joined the Baptist Church. She attended as long as her health permitted.

Muriel graduated from El Dorado Springs High School.

On Sept. 14, 1935, she married William Henry Hammer in Vernon County. They were bless with two children, Dennis Dean and Patsy Sue.

Preceding Muriel in death were her parents, Eddie and Trudy Adams; daughter, Patsy Sue; three sisters - Ruby Barritt, Virginia Carter and Elizabeth Schwalm; and six brothers – Eugene, Floyd, James, Paul, Lawrence and Kenneth Adams.

Muriel is survived by her son, Dennis, and wife, Vonda, and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn.

Marvin Curtis Powers

Marvin Curtis Powers, 69, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Medicalodges of Nevada, MO. He was born Jan. 9, 1941, in El Dorado Springs to Marvin Newton Powers and Ella Mae (Sumner) Powers.

Curtis graduated high school in El Dorado Springs. He worked for a while as a lineman in the Kansas City area and then owned and operated a marina and boat dock on Stockton Lake. While there, he served as a fisherman’s guide and was reported to know every hollow log and good fishing spot on the lake. Later he owned a backhoe and septic tank service business in Stockton.

While his health permitted, Curtis loved to fish and hunt. After his health deteriorated, he was a resident in the nursing home for several years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Harry Lee Powers, who was killed in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his son, M.C. Powers; an uncle, Tom Powers, and his wife, Catherine - Neosho; many cousins and other relatives and friends.

The family received friends at Bland-Hackleman Chapel from noon until service time at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Rev. James Coleman officiated. Interment followed in Mound Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

James Kimble Kiefer Sr.

James Kimble Kiefer Sr, 92, of Williams, OR, died on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010.

No public services are planned. Private inurnment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery near Medford, OR.

He was born Nov. 28, 1917, in El Dorado Springs to Charles and Clara Kiefer. He, his parents, an older brother, Morris, and their extended family lived in El Dorado Springs for many years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief Machinists Mate.

In 1945, Brooklyn, NY, he married Dolores Teresa Brueckner who died in 1976. From 1950 to 1975, he worked as the Building

Superintendent for the City of Kansas City, Missouri, overseeing all city-owned buildings. In 1990, he moved to Oregon from Santa Ana, CA, to live with his son.

He was a member of the Greater Kansas City Art Association and enjoyed painting, steam engines and robotics.

Survivors include a son, James Kiefer Jr. of Williams, OR, and a daughter, Karen Kiefer, of Ogilvie, MN.
