Lois Mabel Evans, 97, was born in Tiffin on Sept. 24, 1906, the daughter of Charles Henry Brackenridge and Mary Brown. She was a direct descendant of some of the area's earliest pioneers and was the seventh generation to reside in the area. She went to be with the Lord on Nov. 3, 2003, in El Dorado Springs.

Lois was married to Washington Ward Evans on March 12, 1927. One daughter, Marceline Evans Abbott, was born to the couple.
Lois' family was her pride and joy, as well as her mainstay. They remember her quiet spirit and her remarkable ability to make the best of any situation without grumbling or complaining. She was a powerful example of humility and delighted in doing for her family without expecting anything in return. She enjoyed a close relationship with her Lord and attended Pape Christian Church throughout her adult life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, John C. Brackenridge, and his wife-Zula Reed Brackenridge, and James Halley Brackenridge; and her husband, Washington Ward Evans.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marceline and Elmer Abbott - rural Schell City; her grandson, Connie Abbott - rural El Dorado Springs; and her granddaughters, Marcia Abbott and Susan Abbott - rural Schell City; sister-in-law, Velda Faye King; two nieces, Denzial Brackenridge Ryan and Kay Brackenridge Phillips; and two nephews, James Brackenridge and Jerry Brackenridge.
