Michael Dennis McKinney, 63, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sept. 17, 2011, at Cox
South Hospital in Springfield. He was born Aug. 24, 1948, in Independence, to Lawrence Dennis and Jewell (Caruthers) McKinney.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jane, of the home; two sons: Rob McKinney and wife-Christy of El Dorado Springs and Andrew McKinney - Springfield; one daughter, Courtney Bland and husband-Nick of El Dorado Springs; four grandchildren - Shelby, William, Noah and Jackson; two brothers: David McKinney and wife-Connie of Carthage and Terry McKinney and wife-Linda of Shell City; and other relatives and friends.
Services began at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness). Committal was in Greenlawn Cemetery at Shell City under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of God (Holiness) Benevolence Fund and left at the funeral home.

Rodney Ray Ridinger
Rod Ridinger, 56, Raytown, passed away Sept. 15, 2011, from complications of cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Frances Ridinger; and brother, Ronnie Ridinger.

Mary Lucille (Wells) Gilmore
Mary Lucille (Wells) Gilmore, 84, the daughter of Francis Marion and Lillie Edith (Gamble) Wells, was born Aug. 29, 1927, Walker and passed from this life at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Mary attended school in Schell City, graduating with the class of 1945. She worked for a time at what was then known as the Nevada State Hospital.
On July 27, 1942, she was united in marriage to Almon Edward Ogle and to their union two children were born. He passed away Jan. 3, 1964. Later she married George Andrew Gilmore and together they had one daughter.
Mary lived much of her life in Missouri but for a time did live in Iowa. She lived mostly in El Dorado Springs and was employed at the International Shoe Company for 19 years. She attended cosmetology school in the 1960s only to find out that was not the career for her. In later years she and George moved to Adrian, but spent most winters in California and Arizona.
Her hobbies included a love of reading, crossword puzzles, Bingo and the Game Show Network.
Mary was saved at an early age and was a member of the United Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs.
Survivors include her son, Everette Ogle and his wife – Donna of Moundville; one daughter, Della Underwood, and her husband – Buddy of Ellington; two brothers, Bob Wells and his wife – Dorothea of Schell City; and Harry Wells and his wife – Carol of Butler; four sisters – Bettie Fox of Schell City, Cordy Reed of Adrian, June Gardner of Raytown and Dorothy Vantellman and her husband, Sam of Schell City; six grandchildren – Kim Whitesell, Amber Jenkins, Felicia Love, Tera Underwood, Roy Love and Tearstin Ogle; five great- grandchildren – Kesha Hurley, Dakota Patterson, Tristen Patterson, Eain McKinney and Justice Love; and one great- great grandson, Gavin Hurley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Linda Darlene Jenkins
Linda Darlene Jenkins, 78, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sept.10, 2011, at Cedar County Hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Los Angeles, CA, to Darrell and Linda (Riley) Sander.She graduated from Compton High School in Long Beach, CA, and later attended San Francisco School of Cosmetology. On Jan. 24, 1953, she married James Harold Jenkins in Nevada. Darlene was saved and baptized in the Missionary Baptist Church.
After moving to Missouri, Darlene worked for Nevada Habilitation Center, Casey’s General Stores and Jump Stop Convenience Store. She enjoyed working, shopping, a good recipe and being with family and friends.
She was known to all as “Granny,” and was always willing to give honest advice. Granny loved good company, good food and a good joke. She loved to brag about her grandchildren and host family get-togethers. She loved to watch professional baseball and football, spend time shopping with friends and go out to lunch. She was very independent and head strong and for many years managed her husband’s business and farm. She retired from Nevada Habilitation Center as a DA2 before working at Casey’s and Jump Stop. If a customer was ever short money, she would help them out. She had a heart of gold, but was always honest with all her comments.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Darrell and Linda Sander; her husband, James Jenkins, her daughter, Darla Boultinghouse, and great-granddaughter, Darla.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sandra Gillis - Joplin; one sister, Jeanette Chandler - Camp Verde, AZ; seven grandchildren - Robert Gillis, Shane Davis and wife - Virginia, Lee Roy Boultinghouse and wife - Amy, Jennifer Daniel and husband - Jeff, Eric Boultinghouse, Samantha Gillis and Sean Gillis; and eight great-grandchildren - Skyler Greathouse, Ty Davis, KenLeigh Daniel, Wesley Davis, Kaelin Daniel, Kale Boultinghouse, Kylah Daniel, and Darlinda Davis.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, from 7-8 p.m., at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Final disposition is cremation under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Eldon Dean Thompson
Eldon Dean Thompson, 84, El Dorado Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Community Springs Health Center in El Dorado Springs.
Eldon was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Robinson, KS, to Tonnes and Anna (Reidel) Thompson.
Eldon married Ruthanna Margaret Albers on Aug. 15, 1964, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison, KS. She preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 1996.
They lived in Atchison three years before moving to Nevada.
Eldon and Ruthanna had three children – Philip, David and Marcella. After Ruthanna’s retirement for the Nevada Daily Mail, they traveled and lived in many different places in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. A short time before her death they settled in Stickney, S D. Eldon stayed in South Dakota a few years after Ruthanna’s death and then returned to Missouri.
Eldon was a longtime faithful servant of God. He also was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Eldon enjoyed his family very much and loved his grandchildren. He looked forward to going to visit family on their farm every Sunday.
Eldon is survived by his sons, David Thompson and wife - Lynda, of Sacramento, CA and Phil Thompson and his wife – Susan, of Walker; and his daughter, Marcella Lukenbill, and her husband – Ed of Nevada, and his two grandchildren, Susan Lukenbill and Chase Thompson.
His graveside service began at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5.5 miles west of Golden City.
The family has suggested memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Curmit C. Casey
Curmit C. Casey, 80, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. He was born in Strawn, KS, on March 18, 1931, to Olin and Agnes (Bland) Casey. He spent his early years in Cedar/St. Clair County residing in the Black Jack area.In 1952 Curmit moved to Kansas City and became an employee of General Motors Fairfax Plant, working in the trim department and emissions control. On Feb. 12, 1966, he married his soul mate, Annadell Finke. He retired from GM in 1982, having been a loyal worker for 30 years.
That same year Curmit embarked upon a second career when he joined the Dale Carnegie
Training as a sales representative with the responsibility of forming new classes. He was 2nd and 3rd in personal production three years in a row. This was a superb accomplishment considering the fact that the Dale Carnegie Training is taught in 168 countries. He retired from the Dale Carnegie Training in 2002 having faithfully pursued what was his passion—serving others and helping them to reach their full potential.
Curmit was a member of the Church of God (Holiness) and served on the board of deacons for many years. He had a perfect Sunday school attendance record of 46 years. He had a deep consuming desire to advance the kingdom of God by giving to missions. This was evident in the fact that he was responsible for having a church built in Chaine Moulin in the mountains of Haiti, a well dug in Africa and the translation of the Bible from English to Spanish via the Bardales Spanish Ministry.
The pursuit of travel was Curmit and Ann’s favorite pastime—having traveled to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Tahiti, China and Europe.
Curmit was preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Agnes Casey; and his brother, Clemit Casey.
He leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Annadell Casey, of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Wanda Casey, of El Dorado Springs; a nephew, Dr. Rick Casey, of El Dorado Springs; a nephew, Mick Casey, of Forsyth; a niece, Karen Casey, of Hicksville, OH; two great nephews, Patrick Casey, of Hollywood, CA, and Scott Casey and wife, Kristen, of El Dorado Springs; a great niece, Sarah Marcum, and husband, Jake, of Fort Bragg, NC; two grandnephews, Trey and Talon Marcum, and two grandnieces, Taylor and Taryn Marcum, all of Fort Bragg, NC. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Paul Finke, of Florissant, along with many other relatives and friends.
Curmit will be greatly missed as he was often heard to say, “I just love people,” and his many friends were a testimony to that fact.
The family received friends at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
The memorial service were held at the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness) at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. Officiating were Rev. Ernest Mullins, Rev. William Cook, Rev. Joe Trussell, Rev. Rene’ Bardales and Rick Easley. Music was provided by Barry Witt, Richard Beckham and Marla Cook. Interment followed in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Dr. Rick Casey, Mick Casey, Scott Casey, Brad Yager, Reggie Hamilton and Rick Easley. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Bland, Junior Bland, Len Bland, Clayton Bland, Randy L. Bland and Rene’ Bardales.

Eleanor Virginia (Jones) Purtle
Eleanor Virginia (Jones) Purtle, 87, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sept. 7, 2011. She was born Aug. 12, 1924, to Clyde O. and Lona M. (Hamilton) Jones near Caplinger Mills, the eldest of three children.She attended nearby rural grade schools and high school at Caplinger and Halfway. In 1946, she married W.H. “Doc” Purtle. Except for a brief time in Bates County, they lived in the Rookins area before moving to El Dorado Springs in 1961. They lost an infant son shortly after his birth and later had a daughter, Janice.
Eleanor was a homemaker, farm wife and a Godly influence in her home. Among her interests were sewing, crafts, gardening and canning and, in later years, genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. H. “Doc” Purtle; her sister, Helen R. Purtle; and a brother, James Lowell Jones.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice (Bill) Amick, and their daughter Kaitlyn; Helen’s children - Darrel (Carleen) Purtle, Glenda (Steve) Mays, and Lora (Milan L.) Bourland; her sister-in-law, Leila Jones, and her children: Brenda Miller, Trisha (Michael) Toth, Linda (Frank) Post, Randy (Julie) Jones, and Kim Jones; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Monday, Sept. 12, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Rev. Joe Trussell officiated. Burial followed in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Kevin Ray Parish
Kevin Ray Parrish, 45, passed away on Sept. 4, 2011, at his home in rural El Dorado Springs after a four year battle with cancer. He was born to Junior and Madelene Parrish on Nov. 7, 1965, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital.
Kevin graduated from El Dorado Springs R-2 High School in 1984. After graduation,
Kevin farmed and ran the feed store with his father. He also hauled livestock for customers and maintained his cattle and hay ground after his father’s death in 2003 until the present.
Kevin was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his father, Junior, who passed away in 2003.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Madelene Parrish, and daughter, Gracie Parrish, of the home. He is also survived by one sister, Kim Calvin, and her husband, Gray, of El Dorado Springs; one niece, Larin Burns, and her husband, John, of Republic; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.
Services began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.7, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Davis officiated and Linda Burns provided music. Burial followed in Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Juanita Allene Swager
Juanita Allene Swager, 86, El Dorado Springs, passed away at Community Springs Healthcare on Aug. 31, 2011. She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in El Dorado Springs to Ira Leroy and Sylvia Lee (Taylor) Swager.
While living in Iowa, Juanita worked for Interstate Insurance, Look Magazine and in the Iowa State House for the Governor. She moved back to El Dorado Springs in 1995 where she attended the First Christian Church while her health allowed.
Juanita’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting and quilting.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Leland (Chuck) Swager; and one sister, Alma Caroline Eaves.
Juanita is survived by four children and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Wagoner Cemetery southwest of Stockton. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Mary Anna Nading
Mary Anna Marshall, 87, was born on June 18, 1924, to Rebecca Jane Bryson and Fred Lorenzo Marshall in Neodesha, KS. She passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
She married Bill Nading on May 19,1945. To this marriage three children were born - Gerladine, Bill Jr. and Nick.
Mary accepted Jesus as her personal savior and was a member of the First Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs. Mary is remembered as a Sunday School teacher, Training Union leader and Baptist Hill counselor.
Mary was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill Nading Sr; her daughter, Gerladine Marshall, and grandson, Jeffrey Marshall.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Georgia Nading - El Dorado Springs; a son, Nick Nading - Kingman, AZ.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, family suggest contributions to be made to The Barone's Care Center in care of Sheldon Funeral Home.
Services began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Sheldon Funeral Home with Rev. Brent

Maudie Dulin
Maudie Dulin was a lady in every sense of the word. She was quiet and shy, but made friends easily. She was devoted to her two children, James and Betty, whom she raised by herself after their father died in May, 1959. She loved each grandchild, great grandchild and great-great grandchild. There was nothing more important to her than her family.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1928, in Barber County, AL, to Effie and Laborn Austin. She lived most of her life in Phenix City, AL. She married the love of her life, James Edward Dulin Sr. on May 6, 1945. She moved to Columbus, GA, with her son, James, and later moved to Independence to be with her children before moving to Schell City.

Everett Russell Kenney
Everett Russell Kenney, 68, El Dorado Springs, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011. Everett was born in Rich Hill on Feb. 22, 1943, to Nellie Viola (Crosswhite) Kenney and Raymond Nelson Kenney. He was a 1961 graduate of Nevada High School.
On June 4, 1965, Everett married his one and only love in Decatur, IL. Jacklyn Sue Edwards was the girl next door and he spent a year wooing her in order to spend the next 46 years of his life with her. In 1970 Everett and Jackie became part of the El Dorado Springs community where they were blessed with three children.
As a young child in Nevada, Everett accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. His relationship with God was evident to the people with whom he came in contact.
He worked various jobs as a laborer and farmer over the years of his life. The highlight of Everett's work career was the opportunity to serve as a positive influence at Nevada High School where he spent five years on staff as a custodian. He found joy in being able to interact with youth and share the word of Christ.
Everett was an active member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado Springs. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He found fulfillment in preaching the gospel through the church's nursing home ministry.
Preceding Everett in death were his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie, of the home; his three children - Kevin Kenney and wife, Patricia - El Dorado Springs, Kim Lloyd and husband, Dwayne - Lebanon and Chris Kenney and wife, Jana - Carthage; granddaughters, Morgan and Jeremiah; step-grandsons, Jeremy and Michael; two sisters, Mary Kenney - Bartlesville, OK and Karen Clark and husband, Terry - Redlands, CA; four brothers - Donald Kenney and wife, Sharon - Florida, Karl Baggett and wife, Sherrill, Paul Baggett and wife, Peggy and Lawrence Baggett - all of Nevada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in the First Baptist
Church in El Dorado Springs with Bro. Ron Marsh and Bro. Chris Kenny officiating. Rita Farris and Jana Kenney will provide music. Interment will follow in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Donna L. (Green) East, 73, of Willard, passed away in her home on Sunday morning, Aug. 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, following a six month illness.
Donna was born in El Dorado Springs, growing up here and graduating from El Dorado Springs High School in 1956. She attended Southwest Missouri State University.
She was a homemaker and had been employed with the Shawnee Mission School District.
She was a longtime faithful and active member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Willard, organizations and was for many years a voting judge on local election
committees.
Donna Green and Richard East were united in marriage on Aug. 24, 1958. To this union two children were born. Together they were privileged to share 53 years. She was preceded in death by her parents O. Lee and Jewell Fox Green.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard, of the home; son Richard “Rick” and wife Lori East - Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Katherine “Renee” East - Overland Park, KS; three grandchildren - Katherine “Katie” Theresa East, Andrew Wacker and Christine “Tina” Wacker; sister, Sherry, and husband, Ed Morlan - El Dorado Springs; two nephews: York Morlan - Blue Springs, and Tad and Rebecca “Becki” Morlan - Willard; and two grand-nephews: Jacob and Caleb Morlan.
Services began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Willard, with Rev. Lorraine Dill officiating.
Interment followed in Wesley Cemetery, Willard, under the care and direction of Wilson Brim-Daniel Funeral Home, Ash Grove.

Robert Charles Baer
Robert Charles Baer, 46, Schell City, the son of Robert John and Judith Anne (Bowman) Baer, was born March 22, 1965, in Muscatine, IA, and passed from this life at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at St. Johns Regional Health Center in Springfield.
Robert attended school in Iowa and graduated from West Branch High School in 1983. About a year later, he, along with his family moved to the Nevada area. It was while living in this area that he met and married Shellie Peace. They became the parents of three children.
Through the years Robert lived in Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa, but in the early 1990s he made Missouri his permanent home.
He worked as a self-employed mechanic and farm hand and was employed by Dirt Works of Walker, Young's in Nevada and Schell City Truck and Tractor. His hobbies included a love of animals and the outdoors, a bit of bird hunting, a lot of fishing, but mostly he loved building trucks and running them through the mud.
Survivors include his three children – two sons, Robert James Baer and Ashley – Harwood; and Joel David Baer – Harwood; one daughter, Darci Anne Baer – Lufkin, TX; his mother and step-father, Judith and Bill Michener – Red Oak, TX; one brother, Richard James Baer – Bentonville, AR; and one grandson, Paxton Lane Baer. Robert was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Ronald John Baer.
Services were Monday, Aug. 22, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City, with Bro. Dan Fagala officiating. Pallbearers were Robert J. Baer, Joel Baer, Richard Baer, Kyle Begley, Tim Bailey and Rick Reasoner. Interment was in the Lefler Cemetery in Harwood.

Margaret Virginia Roseman
Margaret Virginia Roseman, 94, of Greenfield, was born Aug. 9, 1917, at Marshfield, the only child of W. Scott and Nina (Allison) Smith, and passed away Aug. 19, 2011, at St. John's Hospital.
Much of her childhood was spent in Excelsior Springs. In 1935, she graduated from Butler High School and married E. J. Roseman. In 1940, they established their home on a farm near Greenfield. Margaret did much of the farm work and was an excellent mother and homemaker.

Ben U. Owens
Ben U. Owens, 67, of Greenwood, passed away on Aug. 19, 2011.
Ben was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Snowball, AR, to Otis and Bertha Owens.
Ben was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife, Marcy Owens; his children:
David, Doug and his wife, Angie, and Debbie; and granddaughters: Beth and her husband, Andrew, and Emily.
Ben was laid to rest in the Lee's Summit Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
Ben was a brother-in-law to Wayne Leedy and son-in-law to the late Merle and Rena Leedy.

Albert Lee Venter
Albert Lee Venter, 86, was born on Sept. 10, 1924, to Albert C. and Alice Venter in rural St. Clair County.
Albert served with distinction in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, participating in four major battles and earning four Bronze Stars.
He married Donnis Mays on Nov. 27, 1947.
He spent the remainder of his life on the family farm on the Sac River near Roscoe. He served for many years on the ASC Committee for St. Clair County and for one term as a school board member of the El Dorado Springs R-2 System. He was a lifelong member of Riverview Bible Church, serving as its pastor for many years. He was an avid Bible student and taught many classes throughout his lifetime.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Albert Lee is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donnis, of the home; two children, Dr. John Venter - Joplin and Linda Birk -
El Dorado Springs; two grandchildren, Eric Venter - Neosho and Jill Venter - St. Paul, MN; two great-grandchildren, Erica and Eden Venter - Neosho; as well as his brother, Ernest Venter - Rogersville and his sister, Wanda Decker - El Dorado Springs. He was preceded in death by his sister, Opal Keepper, and a grandson, Mark Andrew Venter.
Services were held Thursday, Aug. 11, at Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. The Greathouse family sang “Amazing Grace” and “Ivory Palaces.” Casket bearers were Darren Mays, Gary Keepper, Doug Mays, Sundance Keepper, Dirk Mays, Eric Venter and Don Birk. Miltary honors were provided by the U.S. Army Bravo Team. Interment was in the Venter Family Cemetery.

Raymond Russell Francis
Raymond Russell Francis, 88, the fourth son of Wilbert Thomas and Myrtle Mae (Evans) Francis, was born on the Francis home farm on Dec. 1, 1922, in Pleasant Valley near Rainy, and passed away Aug. 15, 2011, at Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola.
Ray attended grade school at Rainy Hill, District 80, and Osceola High School graduating in 1941.
He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Christian Church, being baptized in 1935 at Keller's Camp on the Sac River. Ray and his mother prepared communion on Sunday mornings. He had the job of secretary and treasurer at the church.
After graduation, he went to California where he worked in an aircraft factory in Jan. 1942. On Dec. 9, 1942, he volunteered for the U.S. Air Force. After training Ray graduated as a fighter pilot, flying P47 Thunderbolt Fighters, with 55 missions in Europe. He won the Air Medal and 5 Oak Leaf Clusters; he also wore the Presidential Unit Citation with one cluster.
After returning home in 1945, Ray then went to Kansas City where he worked for the Weather Bureau Forecast Center and later Air Traffic Control in Kansas City. While working there he was recalled to the service during the Korean conflict. He was sent to Japan and while in the Far East he spent time in Japan, Korea, China, Formosa, Okinawa. Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. He carried a top-secret clearance personal card.
Ray returned home in 1958, where he farmed with his brother, Moss. In 1960 he went to Lake City, MN, and bought a large apple orchard which he worked until 1985.
While in Lake City, Ray met and married Jean Lois Thompson in 1980. They moved back to the St. Clair county farm near, Rainey. She preceded him in death in 2006. Ray remained on the farm until 2008 when he moved to the nursing home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean, three brothers - Harry, Melvin (Moss) and A. L. (Pete) Francis; his stepdaughter, Toni Piar, and a nephew. Calvin Francis.
Ray is survived by his sister in-law, Lillie Francis; two nieces Juanita Gumm and Norma Haglund; one nephew, Dennis Francis; several great nieces and nephews; two step-granddaughters, Brenda Fug and Kathy Piar; best friends, Joe and Doris Norval, other relatives and friends.
Services were held Thursday, Aug. 18, in Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Rev. Mike Norval and Joe Norval officiating. Richard Sunderwirth was vocalist and Gail Ingle, accompanist, for “Shall We Gather At The River.” Casketbearers were: Robert Truitt, Mark Francis, Joe Norval, Rusty Norval, Myron Rapp and Doug Hicks. Honorary casketbearers were Bob Gardner and Charles A. Francis.
VFW Post #1894 performed the military service. Interment was in Freeman-Holsapple Cemetery under direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.

James Bert Thompson
James Bert Thompson, 68, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sunday evening Aug. 14, 2011, at his home. He was born Jan. 15 1943 in Plain Dealing, LA, the son of James Bert and Thyra Cordell (Jenkins) Thompson.
Early in his life, James lived in Louisiana and then Texas. He worked as a mechanic in the fork lift industry. In his spare time he enjoyed horseback riding.
On Dec. 1 1990, he was united in marriage to Rita Kay (Ehlers). They had just recently moved to this area from Fayetteville, TN.
Survivors include his wife, Rita, of the home in El Dorado Springs; two sons – James Briers of California; and Roger Thompson of Tennessee; one daughter, Traci Casillas, of Arizona; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Private cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
