charlotte Nadene O. Askew

Charlotte Nadene O. Askew, 81, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in the Community Springs Nursing Home. Nadene was the last surviving child of Reece and Cornillia Rogers. She was born on July 17, 1922, in Jefferson County,
IN.

While attending Gravette Bible School, Gravette, AR, she met and later married Lorin Leroy Askew on April 23, 1939. After getting married, Lorin and Nadene moved to Ava where Lorin taught a semester at Mt. Zion Bible School. They later moved to Crothersville, IN, where Joann was born. The family moved to Phoenix, AZ, for a time, returned to Indiana and then set¬tled in Kansas City, where Joann enrolled in Kansas City College and Bible School. After Lorin's retirement in 1977, Lorin and Nadene moved to El Dorado Springs.

Nadene's first love was being a housewife and mother but she held jobs at a number of businesses including a shoe factory in Indiana, the Nazarene Publishing House, People's Bank and the Jones Store in Kansas City as well as filling the role of church secretary at the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness).

To her family, Nadene was known for her talented sewing, wonderful cooking and ornery smile. As a hostess, she was quiet and often in the background, making sure all was in order and ensuring everyone was well fed. Her lists were legendary and her ability to organize was exceptional - a trait that seems to have been passed down to the rest of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters - Mildred, and twin sisters, Freeda and Faye Rogers.

Survivors include her husband, Lorin - El Dorado Springs; daughter, Joann Skaggs, and her husband-Jesse - Olathe, KS; grandson, David Skaggs, and his wife-Lance, and their three children - Jessica, Justin and Jared, who she loved very much.
Nadene was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grand¬mother, great-grandmother and friend - in her quiet way she touched many lives. She will be greatly missed.

Services were held on Monday morning, Nov. 3, at the Church of God (Holiness) with Revs. Leland Trussell, Omar Lee and Joe Trussell officiating. Musical selections were provided by Lance Skaggs, Gary Conley, Trisha Conley, Debbie Goodwin and Faith Trussell. Interment was in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Wayne Downer, Brent Bland, Kirk Bland, Randy Bland, Barry Witt and Brad Witt.
