Jerry Bob Brown

Bob Brown, 77, Bolivar, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 7, 2011.  He was born Jan. 11, 1934, in El Dorado Springs, the son of Clyde and Lelia Brown. 

He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School. He later attended the Intensive Language Institute in Washington, DC, learning to speak Spanish and French.

He married Margaret Suzanna “Sue” Huff on Aug. 3, 1952, in El Dorado Springs.  In their 59 years of marriage, they had four children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.  

Bob joined the U. S. Air Force and spent more than 23 years traveling around the world in service to his country.  After retiring from the U. S. Air Force, he worked for a short while in the aircraft industry before returning to government service.  He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 19 years and then returned to the private sector working part time delivering vehicles to various points across the U.S. 

Bob had a passion and natural curiosity for people.  He rarely forgot a name and enjoyed getting acquainted with people.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his wife, Sue Brown, of Bolivar; daughter, Pam McMurry - Mount Hope, KS; daughter, Susan Long - Valley Center, KS; son, Dan Brown - Liberty; and son, Steven Brown - Willow Springs; and sister, Maxine Tant - Nevada.

Memorial services began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the United Methodist Church, El Dorado Springs. Pastor Patty Smith officiated and Alyssa Parks provided music. Final disposition is cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
