Mabel Irene Leer, 82, Nevada, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009, in Moore-Few Care Center following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Milo to Charley Prince Scott Sr. and Alta Marie Mowrey Scott.
She was married May 26, 1945, in Nevada to Clifford Leon Leer and he preceded her in death in November 1961.
Mrs. Leer grew up in Milo and graduated from Nevada High School in 1945. She worked as a nurse’s aide for 39 years at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Wichita, KS. She was a Baptist. Following her retirement, she came back to Nevada and had lived there every since.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Terry Wayne; one brother, Charles Scott Jr.; and two sisters, Lolly Pearl Scott and Jessie Buenning.
Survivors include one son, Michael Leer and his wife, Mary – Hays, KS; one daughter, Linda Perkins and her husband, Carl – Branson; four grandchildren – Kristene Strumillo – Kansas City, Scott Denning – Wichita, KS, Amanda Leer and Randy Leer – both of Hays, KS; and three great-grandchildren; three sisters – Dorothy Fetters – Ft. Scott, KS, Maxine Holcomb – Nevada, and Velma Bobbett – El Dorado Springs.
Services were held Monday, April 27, in Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, was in the Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
