Robert Leo Charles, 92, Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Feb. 18, 2011, in his daughter’s home in Cleveland, OH. He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Harwood, Vernon County, to William Melville and Cora Lee Porter Charles.
He graduated from Harwood High School, Chillicothe Business College and attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, completing his tour of duty with the U.S. Third Army in Germany.
He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as Sales Manager after 41 years of railroad service.
Robert was married 6o years to Louella Frances Raymond Charles who preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Sue, and son-in-law, Robert Madden; son, William, and daughter-in-law, Angela; granddaughter, Katy Charles; grandsons; Jeffrey Klubnik (Lisa) and Michael Klubnik (Beth); great-granddaughter, Kayley Klubnik; and great-grandson, Matthew Klubnik.
Services were held at Zabor’s Funeral Home in Cleveland, OH, on Feb. 21, 2011. A memorial service was held later in Winston-Salem, NC, with interment at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC.
