Marilee Macha (Hargrove) Melton, 79, Springfield, passed away at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was born to Paul and Etta (Shaw) Hargrove on June 29, 1931, in Vernon County. Marilee’s parents owned and operated
Hargrove Hardware in El Dorado Springs for several years.
Marilee lived most of her adult life in Brookline where she enjoyed going out to eat, especially at Ziggie’s Cafe. She enjoyed eating catfish that had been caught by her best friend, James Lockstead, and prepared by his wife, Mary Lou. Marilee was described as being “strong-willed and stubborn.” She especially loved the companionship of her Chihuahua, Buddy.
Preceding Marilee in death were her parents, one brother and two sisters.
She is survived by her adopted family, the Locksteads, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were held on Monday morning, March 14, 2011, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near El Dorado Springs with Reverend James Coleman officiating. Services were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
