Mary Ellen Poteet, 83, Lamar, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born March 6, 1920, in Anthon, IA, to Edwin Walter Prescott and Opal Viola Palmer Prescott.
She married James Warner on Oct. 6, 1944, in Anthon, IA, and he preceded her in death in Dec. 1984. She married Leroy Poteet in November 1992 in Arkansas and he survives of the home.
Mary spent most of her youth in Iowa. She came to Missouri several years after marriage and spent the rest of her life here. She was a homemaker and a seamstress by trade and a member of the Milford Christian Church. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was deeply loved in return.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers - Ancil Edwin Prescott, Edwin Eugene Prescott, James Robert Prescott and Charles Daniel Prescott; one sister, Ruth Marion Dicus; and one stepson, Roy Poteet.
In addition to her husband, Leroy Poteet, she is survived by one son, James Eugene Warner – Weir, KS; three daughters – Marion Elaine Bernard – Collinsville, OK, Opal Marie Mooney – Sheldon, and Lavone Irene Beatty – Blue Springs; one stepdaughter, Ellen Annette Choszczyk – Paonia, CO; and one sister, Patsy Maddox – Cherokee, IA; 11 granchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Cliff Hazzard officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
Thursday evening, March 31, at the funeral home.
