Maxine Deckard Cypret Thomas

Maxine Mae Thomas was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Myrtle, MO, to Willie and Edna (Cypret) Deckard. She passed away July 27, 2010, at Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs.

Maxine was always a hard worker, often holding two jobs at a time. She began during WWII in St. Louis soldering gas cans for the military, all through the war. Sometime later, she began to work in sales or other jobs involving contact with the public. This became the focus of her life.

She sold for Lerner Clothing, Louis Walters and the Jones Store Co., to name a few. Maxine was also a manager of a bar as one of her other ventures. Ultimately, Maxine was an Avon representative for 30 plus years, compiling an exemplary record as she had done many times before. She was especially proud of her record of selling for 32 years and never missed submitting an order during a single two-week campaign. Maxine even submitted her orders from her hospital bed following surgery. Her area covered northeast Kansas City and south of 39th St. areas. Deliveries were made in a red Cadillac convertible which achieved some notoriety in the neighborhood. Did you know her in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s? She loved people, never met a stranger and always flashed her dazzling smile to everyone.

First, last and always, she was utterly feminine, beautiful in form, face and personality who will be sorely missed by all who encountered her.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bill Deckard and Wafe Deckard.

She is survived by her son, Denzil Cypret, and wife, Tina - El Dorado Springs; grandsons, Bret Cypret - Kansas City, and Eric Cypret - Hermosa, CA; several nieces, nephews and a very special ex-husband, AJ “Bud” Madden, who has remained a very close and dear friend; other relatives and many friends.

Services were held Saturday, July 31, in Sheldon Chapel with Pastor Joe Trussell officiating. Music selections were Amazing Grace, Remember When and Wind Beneath My Wings.

Casketbearers were – J.R. Deckard, Greg Deckard, James William Deckard, Eric Cypret, Gene Drake and Bret Cypret. Honorary casketbearer was James Carl Deckard. Interment was in Cotton Creek Cemetery, Couch, MO.

Arrangements were by Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
