Chester E. Depue, 88, Slater, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003, in the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia. He was born June 4, 1915, in Bartkesville, OK, the son of the late David and Gladys Davis Depue. He was married to Norma Schloniker.
Chester was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post #233, the V.F.W. Post #257 and the D.A.V. He worked most of his life as a miner. He had also farmed, welded and drove a truck. He moved to Slater in 1996 from El Dorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 2002; and by seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by three sons - Harley Depue and Norman Depue - both of Slater, and David Depue - Reading, KS; a daughter, Rosella Heathman - Reading, KS; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, June 10, in the Weiker Funeral Home, Slater, with Charles R. Guthrie officiating. Organist Bethany Weiker played "How Great Thou Art" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." Burial with military rites was in the El Dorado Springs City
Cemetery under direction of the Weiker Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Harold Clark, Richard Graham, David Geist, Robert Depue,
Michelle Smith and Harold Rossman.
