Edward Harden Applebee, 53, was born in Lincoln, ME, to Eugene Roscoe Applebee and Carolyn Althea (Priest) Apple¬bee on Jan. 16, 1950, and passed from this life on June 24, 2003, in the Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs following severe complications of diabetes. He was the oldest of three boys.
Ed attended school in Lincoln, ME, graduating in 1968, while living with his great-grandparents, Had and Mae Rideout.
While living in Wyoming and working in the oilfields, he married Hazel Rogers. A daugh¬ter, Carolyn June, was born to this union.
His job in the oilfields brought him to Kansas where he met and married Delores Mae Gassmann on March 16, 1974, in Grinnell, KS. There were five children from this marriage - Robert Eugene, Christopher Wayne, Andrew Phillip, Re¬becca Mae and Tina Marie.
Ed was a talented mechanic, craftsman and blacksmith. He was noted to help friends, family, strangers and communities. He helped solve problems which stumped many profes¬sionals. He loved sharing the products he created. Ed was a very giving man.
Robert, Christopher and Andrew were born in Oakley and Colby, KS, before the family moved to Caplinger Mills in 1980. Rebecca and Tina were born in El Dorado Springs and Bolivar.
Preceding him in death was his son, Christopher, who passed away on Oct. 23, 1977; his parents; grandparents; and his special great-grandparents, Had and Mae Rideout.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores - of the home; sons, Robert - El Dorado Springs, and Andrew - Humansville; daughters - Carolyn - Wyoming, and Rebecca and Tina - of the home; his brother, John - Okeechobee, FL; uncle, Bobby Emery, and grandfather, Wallace Emery - both of Eddington, ME; grandchildren - Christopher Harden, Diamond Lee, Andrew Albert and Aries Rollin, who will miss grandpa teasing them.
