Edna Elsielee (Luney) Kramer


Edna Elsielee (Luney) Kramer, 84, El Dorado Springs, departed her life at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Springfield at 7:30 p.m. on April 14, 2010. She was a twin, born on Dec. 25, 1925, to Galileo and Lucy (Ames) Luney, the last living sibling, ninth child of 10 children.

Edna graduated from Carl Junction High School and Joplin School of Cosmetology.

She was united in marriage to Richard Kramer on Dec. 1, 1962, by her uncle in Oronogo, sharing 49 years together. To this marriage two sons, Gene Carter and Gary were raised.

Edna worked as a seamstress in Webb City and went to beauty school. She was an advanced seamstress, cook, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She worked for the El Dorado Springs School System in the library and enjoyed all the students. She then accepted a 15 year position at the Nevada State Hospital in the Sewing Room mending and repairing clothing. While living in Merriam, KS, she was the sewing instructor for Lee Wards. Clothing of shirts and dress suits were designed by her for her sons, Gene and Gary. Her current projects were beautiful quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love of sewing was always something beautifully assembled.

She was saved and baptized at the age of 16 at the Oronogo Baptist Church. She had moved her membership to Union Hall Baptist Church.

Richard and Edna left Overland Park, KS, for an early retirement and made El Dorado Springs their home since 1970.

New to the community, they became involved with being club leaders for the Cedar Springs 4-H.

They enjoyed gardening and their beautiful yard and watching the birds eat from over 30 feeders. Edna and her twin brother, Edward Luney, were always at the Senior citizen Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary Carter; two infant brothers, six adult sisters; and two adult brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, of the home; her son, Gene Carter, and wife, Tommie - Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Margaret Carter - Deerfield; sisters-in-law, Dolly Baughman - Grove OK, Carlene Kramer - Kansas City, Kathryn Roark - Manhattan, KS; brother-in-law, Ed, and Wilma Kramer – Carbondale, KS; five grandchildren - Shannon Cherino, and husband, Roger - Crosbyton, TX, Lynette Smith, and husband, Edwin - Albuquerque, NM, Kristie Carter, and partner, Amy - Austin, TX, Kyla Hoffman, and husband, Kendal - Deerfield, Alicia Marsh, and husband, Damien - Overland Park, KS; 9 great grandchildren - Jakob Smith, Derek Cherino, Garrett Cherino, Zachary, Nathan, Mikey Kite, Cashton and Carly Hoffman and Gabrielle Marsh; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Monday, April 19, in the Sheldon Funeral Home with Brother Everett Smith and Brother Lewis Eslinger officiating. Music was Coat Of Many Colors and Peace In The Valley by Dolly Parton and Angel Band by the Foggy River Boys.

Casketbearers were - Jack McCullick, Edwin Smith, Damien Marsh, Sam Eaves, Kendal Hoffman, Billy Sullivan and Brad Shull. Honorary casketbearers were - Leo Thompson, Roger Cherino, Jakob Smith, Derek Cherino and Garrett Cherino. Interment was in Love Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, under the direction of the Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
