James Henry Fowler, 87, son of Samuel Josiah Fowler and Anna Florentine Albright Fowler, was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Tiffin, and departed this life Aug. 10, 2011, at his home in Lebanon.
Jim, as friends knew him, professed his faith in Christ, at the age of nine.
He served in the United States Army from May 20, 1943, receiving an honorable discharge Jan. 21, 1946. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star Medal and World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp and a Good Conduct Medal. For many years he has been a member of V.F.W. Post 4107 in Lebanon.
He was united in marriage with Dixie Baker on Nov. 29, 1942, and to this union was born four children, all surviving. He and Dixie lived a full and active life, working together, building homes in the Lebanon area for many years. Fowler Drive in Lebanon was given that name after James and his family. He was employed for 22 years with Mid America Dairy in Lebanon as Chief Engineer. His hands were never idle in all these years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Opal Davis, Florence Van Tillman and Mary Emerson, two brothers, Robert who died in infancy and Pearl Fowler, one granddaughter Alidia Leann (Lecy).
He is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; two daughters, Toni McFarland and her husband, David, of Lebanon and Jeri Evans and her husband, Bob, of Phillipsburg; two sons, Jimmy Fowler and his wife, Judy, and Steven Fowler and his wife, Janice, all of Lebanon; one sister, Bonnie Raines of Myrtle Creek, OR; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Telmo and Pat Baker of San Angelo, TX, and John and Patsy Jennings of El Dorado Springs; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 13, at Shadel's Colonial Chapel with Rev. Shelva Hart officiating.
Military Rite - Hotel Team, Rolla.
Final resting place at Mt. Rose Memorial Park under the direction of Shadel's Colonial Chapel.
