Joseph Waldon Barlow Sr., 89, was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Trenton, to Charles and Rosella Coberley Barlow and passed away March 12, 2003, in Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs.
On Jan. 19, 1948, he married Dorothy Bree.
Joseph served his country in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1829 of Kansas City, and American Legion Post 0340 of Sugar Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on Oct. 5, 1974; three brothers - Hayward Barlow, Bill Barlow and Jessie Barlow; and one sister, Ida Mae Ball.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Joseph W. Barlow Jr. and his wife, Dora - Blue Springs, and Charles W. Barlow - North Kansas City; one daughter, Jeannine Young - Independence; two step-daughters, Helen Thomas and her husband, Jim - Lee's Summit, and Marlene Rodreguez - Kansas City; one sis¬ter, Vivian Cross - Mission, KS; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 15, in Sheldon Chapel, El Dorado Springs. Cremation followed under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home of El Dorado Springs.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contribu¬tions be made to the American Cancer Society.
