William R. Evans, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at National Healthcare, Joplin. He was born on Nov. 7, 1915, in Lonetree, the son of John Henry and Ruth Ester Queen Evans.
Mr. Evans was united in marriage to Hazel L. Eaton on June 23, 1937. Although they had no children of their own, they always thought of Hazel's sister, Frances' children, as theirs.
Mr. Evans was a brick mason by trade and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Union Hall Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, on June 26, 2001; his parents; and his brothers and sisters, Frank D. Evans, R.D. Evans, Ernest Evans, Oliver Evans, Leona Evans and Mary Evans.
Survivors include his sister, Mildred Wiggins - Independence; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law - Lola Evans - Independence, Bob and Georgia Eaton - Lowry City, Joe and Mary Eaton and Mary and Charles Carson - El Dorado Springs, Betty and Doyle Finley - Peculiar, and Raymond and Kathy Eaton - Independence. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Saturday afternoon, March 8, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Don Palmer officiating. Musical selections were provided by Ruth Brown. Interment was in the Clintonville Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pall¬bearers were John Evans Jr., Jeffrey Holt, David Eaton, David Evans, Greg Overstreet and Charles Carson. Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Brown and James Carson.
