Anna Jean (Day) Walsh Snider


Anna Jean (Day) Walsh Snider, 84, El Dorado Springs, passed away July 20, 2009. Jean was born April 6, 1925, to Ralph Day and Mabel (Meador) Day in Sommersville.

Jean was married to William Walsh and to this union one son, Michael, was born.

She graduated from SMS College, Springfield, with a teaching degree in elementary education and taught elementary school for many years in Missouri and Virginia. Jean also studied art at the University of Maryland and taught high school art in Virginia.
Later, Jean married Curtis Guffy, of Rockville, and taught school in Appleton City. After his death, she married Harold Snider on Nov. 2, 1992.

Jean was very active in church. She attended the El Dorado Springs First Baptist Church for many years and taught an adult Sunday School class. After she and Harold were married, she became a member of the El Dorado Springs Nazarene Church. She attended church faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, William Walsh and Curtis Guffy; and one brother, John Day.

Survivors include: her husband, Harold Snider, of the home; one son, Michael Walsh, and wife, Deborah - Dayton, VA; three grandchildren - Christina (Walsh) Hathaway, and husband, Sylvester (Sonny) - Houston, TX; Jessica Walsh and Andrew Walsh, both of Virginia; three great-grandchildren - Mason, Mitchell and Payton Hathaway; one step-son, John Snider - El Dorado Springs; one step-daughter, Nancy Friesen - Los Angeles, CA; three brothers - Ralph Day - Bella Vista, AR, Harold Day - Oklahoma City, OK, and Jack Day - Ballwin; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Monday, July 27, in the Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Wendell Daniel officiating. Lorraine Miller provided music. Interment followed in Rockville Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers were - Robert Barlow, Leonard Miller, Richard Miller, Russell Dyer, Quentin Walsh and Dale Goodman. Honorary pallbearers were - Maurice Bland, Marvin Snider and Jose DeValle.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations may be left at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
