Robert Joseph Chase, 73, formerly of Virgil City, passed away June 26, 2009, in the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, KS. He was the son of Edwin and Virginia Thomson Case, born July 18, 1935, in Monahans, TX.
He lived with his family in the Virgil City area when he attended El Dorado Springs High School. Shortly after graduation from high school, the Chase family moved to the Towanda and Potwin, KS, area.
In October 1953, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for 30 years, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the Civil Service for 10 years, retiring in 1994. He moved back to his farm near Potwin and worked on his farm every since.
On Oct. 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Beverly Harvey. To that union two children were born, Randall J. and Lorie Ann. Beverly passed away in 2002 and Randall in 2005.
In July 2003, Bob returned to El Dorado Springs to attend the 50th reunion of his graduating class. There he renewed his friendship with his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Garrett Bonjour, and they were married Aug. 4, 2005, at his farm near Potwin, KS.
They were active in the Potwin Christian Church where Bob had attended for many years. Bob was a generous man and would help people anyway he could. The greatest love of Bob’s life was his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; son, Randall; and step grandson, Robert Bonjour.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of the home; his daughter, Lorie Ann, and her husband, Joel Unger – Valley Center, KS; four stepchildren – Alvin and Brenda Bonjour, Pamala Glotzbach Bonjour, Dale and Michelle Bonjour – Berryton, KS, and Karl and Darcy Bonjour – Topeka; four grandchildren – Caitlan and Chase Kozak – Valley Center, KS, and Samantha and Ryan Chase – Germantown, OH; six step-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John Chase, and his wife, Chris – Akron, OH; and his mother-in-law, Bernice Harvey – Newton, KS.
Services were held July 1, 2009, in the Potwin Christian Church with Dr. J. Tel Tittsworth officiating. The Honor Guard for the service was from 184th Intelligence Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell Air Force Base Wichita, KS. Interment was in the McGill Cemetery, Potwin, KS.
