Georgia Baker, 97, was born Sept. 19, 1912, in Buckland, KS, to Minnie Mae and Charles Judson Hamby. She passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in Cheyenne, OK.
Georgia grew up and attended school in Guymon, OK. She worked for a pharmacist in Guymon where she made money to pay her way through high school. After high school, she was married to Mancel Baker in Guymon, OK, on Jan. 26, 1933. After their marriage, they moved to the family farm north of Berlin to make their home. In 1966, after Mancel passed away, Georgia started working for the Cheyenne Hospital as a nurses aid and continued raising cattle on the family farm. She enjoyed quilting, walking, gardening and canning vegetables, traveling with her cousins and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Betty L. Hardy; five brothers – Guy, Cliffton, J.S., Verdie and Charles Hamby; and two sisters, Vera Green and Audrey West.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Armstrong, and husband, Gary, Mustang, OK; three sons – Ronald Baker, and wife, Shirley – Cheyenne, OK, Benny Baker – Sand Springs, OK, Wallace E. Baker, and wife, Linda – Elk City, OK; 10 grandchildren, - Larry Baker, Deborah Baker, Danny Baker, Brad Baker, Brian Baker, Darren Hardy, Brenda Haggard, Rick Goins, Robin Thomas and Kelly Ramsey; brother, G.W. Hamby; sister, Myrtle Boultinghouse; special nephew, Mack Law; and a host of great grandchildren,
