Janice Mary Scott, 59, El Dorado Springs, passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, after a very brave battle with cancer for the second time. She was born Sept. 23, 1950, to Glen Robert and Susan Mary (Carpenter) Gibbs in El Dorado Springs.
She was married to Scotty Scott on Dec. 14, 1966, and to this union two children were born: Tracy Dawn and Kevin Dale. Janice helped raise her grandchildren which she loved very much, as they did her.
Janice worked for several years at the shoe factory and the shirt factory in El Dorado Springs.
Nothing made Janice happier than spending time with her family. She was the most giving person. She was always doing special things for her kids and grandkids. She never expected anything in return. Janice enjoyed going to all sporting events that her son, brothers, nephews and grandkids played in. She never was bashful about cheering them on. She also enjoyed playing softball with her family at family get-togethers. Other activities she enjoyed were putting puzzles together, card games and listening to and dancing to music.
Preceding Janice in death were her parents; her daughter, Tracy; one brother, Kelly Gibbs; and one nephew, Daniel Reeder.
Janice is survived by her husband, Scotty, of the home; her son, Kevin Scott, and wife, Julie - El Dorado Springs; four grandchildren - Brandon Scott, and wife, Carmen; Shastyn Ketterman, Kellan Scott and Kaden Scott; one great-grandchild, Madison Scott; three brothers - Robbie Gibbs, and wife, Patty, Wayne Gibbs, and wife, Debbie, and Keith Gibbs; four sisters - Joyce Hughes, and husband, Lowell, Kathy Gibbs and Mike Hoffman, Karen Spencer, and husband, Robert, and Kris Leonard, and husband, Greg; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation for family and friends was held on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Services were held on Monday, Nov. 30, at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Interment followed in Love Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were - D. J. Reeder, Brian Gibbs, Lofty Gibbs, Robert Wayne Gibbs, Kendall Gibbs and Jason Spencer. Honorary pallbearers were, Trenton Leonard and Kyler Leonard.
