Sue Weber
Sue Weber, 90, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away March 8, 2009. She was born on May 13, 1918, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the first of three children (two girls and a boy) born to Herman and Emma (DeCamp) Gretzenberg. Even
though Sue, her sister, Margaret, and her brother, Fletcher, were all born in Canada, they were all U.S. citizens because their parents were born in the United States.
While Sue was growing up, she lived in Tampa, FL, the Pocono Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania, Cincinnati, OH, and Wilmington, DE, where she met and married her first husband, Willard Curry.
She gave birth to her only child, a son, on Sept. 4, 1936, naming him Willard Thomas Curry and calling him by his middle name, “Tom.” Some time after divorcing, she met and married a Nebraska man and moved to Omaha, NE, taking her son with her.
When her second marriage failed and her son grew up and became independent, she moved to Salem, OR, to be near her half-sister, Blanche. While living there, Sue became a “born again” Christian and moved to Kansas City, to work at the national headquarters of Stonecroft Ministries, a nonprofit evangelical organization whose mission is to equip and encourage women and married couples to impact their communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
After many years of work for that organization, Sue retired to El Dorado Springs to be near her dearest friends, Paul and Mildred Gardner. Here, she met and married Anthony Weber.
Twenty-five years of independent retirement living in El Dorado Springs came to an end with the onset of several debilitating health conditions and in 2004, Sue’s son moved her to Omaha to Hickory Villa assisted living facility, less than five miles from her son’s home.
After her son’s death on April 13, 2008, her daughter-in-law moved her to Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She died there on March 8, 2009.
She leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Betty Curry – Omaha, NE, her grandson, Victor Curry; and three great-granddaughters.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Clevenger officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Interment will follow the service in Love Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
