James Loren Steckstor, 56, Joplin, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center. He was born June 25, 1953, in Vallejo, CA.
Jim had lived in Joplin for the past 17 years. While in California, he was a car sales manager. In Joplin, he was a cook for Country Kitchen Restauraznt and owned and operated his own handyman and landscaping business.
Jim was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Okinawa.
He was an avid fisherman.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, John R. Steckstor; a brother, John W. Steckstor; and a niece, Tammy Steckstor.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Fox Steckstor; two sisters, Carolyn Daugherty – Joplin, and Marilyn Meyer – San Jacinto, CA; a brother, George Steckstor – Joplin; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Santa Cruz; seven nieces and nephews – Lora Carroll, Michael Miller, Jennifer Ogle, Eric John Steckstor, John Raymond Steckstor, Jenny and Nicole Santa Cruz; great-nieces and nephew - Krista Bullock, Brittani Carroll, Tiffani Carroll, Derek Miller, Cheyenne Eubanks and Jenny Steckstor; and great-great-nephew, Landan Mills; and his beloved canine companion, Shania Steckstor.
Services with military rites began at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Parker Chapel with Dr. Roger Nichols officiating. The family received friends following the service at the mortuary.
