Max Owen Long, 62, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 23, 2009, at his home in Webster County. Max was born May 17, 1947, in Springfield, to Fay Ezra and Alta Loreen Long.
Max was saved at a young age and was a faithful Christian attending Glidewell Baptist Church.
Max served in the United States Army from 1966 -1968 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in the Military Police after a tour of duty in Viet Nam.
Max then joined the Springfield Police Department, retiring after a 20 year career as a Corporal of Major Crimes Investigations. During the following years Max worked in the grocery industry as an internal investigator and, most recently, worked a part-time retirement job at Baish and Skinner Wholesale Florist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fay Ezra and Alta Loreen Long.
Max is survived by Jeanette (Crawford) Long, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1975, in El Dorado Springs; his daughter, Sheri Mitchell, and husband, Jay; grandsons, Brandon and Dylan Mitchell - all of Fredericksburg, VA; brother, Loren Long, and wife, Martha; sisters, Fay Phelps, and husband, Joe, and Rosie Murray, and husband, Mark – all of Springfield; uncle, Byron Owens, and wife, Mary Lou, and aunt Lois Shute - all of Kingman AZ; and uncle Oral Owens, and wife, Roberta - Republic; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Willard.
A loving, caring, and giving person has passed from our midst and will be greatly missed.
