Anna Mae (Hargrove) Cox, 91, Auburn, NH, formerly of Nevada, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Parkland Hospital in Derry, NH. She was born Dec. 16, 1918, in rural Vernon County to Charley T. Hargrove and Bertha O. Hawkins Hargrove.
She was a graduate of El Dorado Springs High School.
She married Edwin J. R. Cox of Clarendo, TX, June 29, 1941. He was a commissioned officer in the Naval Reserve during World War II. Mr. Cox died suddenly in November 1962.
After the war, she and her husband lived in Hawthorne, NJ, until moving to the Chicago, IL, area in 1959. After the death of her husband, Anna returned to Vernon County with her children, living in Nevada until 2003 when she joined her daughter in New Hampshire.
Anna was an excellent seamstress and singer. She enjoyed watching baseball and she had a good sense of humor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada.
Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Cox – Auburn, NH; one son, J.R. Cox – St. Petersburg, FL; one granddaughter, Kristen Palmer - Lee's Summit; one sister, Ruby Sherman – Ottawa, KS; three brothers – Allen Hargrove – El Dorado Springs, Charles Hargrove and Richard Hargrove – both of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dederick.
