Robert L. “Bob” Marcum, 71, was born in Springfield, OR, on Aug. 4, 1939 to Henry and Bonnie Marcum, the second youngest child of 15. Thirteen of the children grew to adulthood while two passed away as young children. He passed away Aug. 18, 2010.
Bob lived in the Corvallis, OR, area until he was 17 and then moved to Missouri with his parents and younger brother, Jim.
It was in Missouri that he met the girl he would marry, Gerry Steward. They were married in 1958, nearly 52 years ago, when Bob was 19 and Gerry was 18. They moved back to Oregon shortly after their wedding and lived in Corvalis and Tillamook before settling in Canby in 1966.
Bob and Gerry had four children. Cindy was born in 1960, Connie in 1962, Cheryl in 1964 and Michael in 1970. He was blessed with his family and worked very hard to provide for them and make wonderful memories. He had eight grandchildren: Cindy’s twins, Justin and Jeremiah - 27 years old, and her daughters, Melissa – 20 and Michelle – 19; Connie’s twins, Kes and Cambria – 14 years old; and Michael’s twins, Brody and Ameila – five years old. Yes, twins ran in Bob’s family as he had twin sisters as well. In addition to Gerry and the kids, Bob is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Virgil – San Diego, CA, Jim – El Dorado Springs, Inis – Salem, OR, and Anna May – Corvallis, OR.
Bob worked as a millwright for Publishers Paper Company for 23 years and was a cattle farmer. In his spare time, he worked on
his farm, worked on cars and farm equipment in his shop and loved to fish (especially in Alaska), hunt, cook, barbeque and visit with his friends and family.
He always had a big smile on his face and was happiest when he was with his wife, Gerry, their kids and grandkids.
