Golda M. Brown

Golda (Goldie) Mae (Green) Brown, 87, El Dorado Springs, was born Jan. 25, 1922, to Charlie and Katie (Culver) Green. She passed away on Sept. 4, 2009.

Goldie married Eugene Brown and to this union three children were born – Jewell, Dwight and Katie.

Goldie was a homemaker for most of her life and took great pride in decorating her yard as well as her home. She was always crafting one thing out of another. She was very resourceful and never threw anything away. Goldie was happy to travel around the countryside visiting friends and family and always willing to take a scenic trip by someone’s “old home place” to see if they had any flowers she could get a start from. Iris’s were her favorite and she surely had every variety ever imagined.

Also in her travels, Goldie was sure to find a rock or two, she just had to have for her rock garden and, more often than not, a piece of driftwood somehow would make it back to the house, too. She loved her flower and rock gardens and her family has moved those rocks all over El Dorado Springs, one Wal-Mart bag at a time.

Grandma Goldie made a mean hamburger and scrumptious banana split. Her cooking skills were limited but she had some special dishes that she could be proud of and her German chocolate cake was definitely one of them. She always doubled up on the chocolate and it was always so moist, mmmmm.

Goldie helped her family in many ways throughout the years, either by letting them stay with her for a bit or giving them a little boost in their wallet to get them by. All she asked in return was a little help around the house, gutters cleaned, yard mowed or to take her to the store. Goldie believed in second chances and that everyone deserved one no matter their past.

Goldie loved all of her family in her own way and she will be missed tremendously.

Preceding her in death was her father, Charlie Green; her mother, Katie Green; husband, Eugene Brown; brother, Jackie Green; daughter, Jewell Hutsell; grandsons, Joseph Shwyhardt and Keith McMannis; and sister, Emma.

Goldie is survived by her son, Dwight Brown – El Dorado Springs; daughter, Katie Shrout – Rayville; three sisters – Mildred Clark – Kansas City, Aleen Huston and Nixola Olinger – both of El Dorado Springs; two brothers, Frank Green – Pleasant Hill and Sam Green – El Dorado Springs; grandchildren – Lourie Sprinkle, Steven Sprinkle, Bradley Sprinkle, Sheryl Reed, Kent (Dink) Hutsell, Angela Hutsell, Corey Brown, Bryan Shrout, Doug Shrout, Scott Shrout, Dana Thomas (Shrout) and Katen Shrout; great-grandchildren – Travis Gabe, Amanda, Nicole, Lindsay, James, Jesse, John, Tyler, Dalton, Hanna, Austin, Tailor, Kylee, Kalen, Gavin, Waylon, Jennifer, Cody, Lindsay, Brittany, Scottie, Preston, and Brodie; and great-great-grandchildren – Wade, Rileigh, Skylan, Little Gabe, Ali, Addison, Aidan, Brylin, Larin, Gavin, Tristin, Keean, Jordan and Little Austin.
