Helen Gertrude (Bruckner) Knapp, 92, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, passed away peacefully at her home, where she had been an invalid for several years. Helen was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Eastman, Crawford County, WI, the daughter of Barney Phillip Bruckner and Anna Louise Halverson.
On Jan. 1, 1955, she married Rev. Glenn Knapp in Rockford, IL, and they had one son, Paul Edward Knapp.
Helen attended La Crosse Teacher’s College in La Crosse, WI, and taught for a time in a one-room schoolhouse in La Crosse, WI. Later she worked in the office of Rockford Machine Tool in Rockford, IL. Helen helped her husband, who is an inventor, build his Bible Topic Missionary Study program; devoting over 30 years to his project. She also helped Rev. Glenn start seven churches, taught Sunday School and assisted in other areas of ministry for over 53 years.
Helen was a godly woman, known for her kindness and even temperament. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers - Harold, George and Merton Leroy; and one sister, Margaret Bruckner.
Survivors include: her husband, Glenn Knapp; her son, Paul Edward Knapp; five grandchildren - Michael Justin Knapp and wife, Melissa - Prairie Du Chien, WI, Joel Austin Knapp and wife, Tawny – Oregon, Jordon Alexander Knapp, Desiree Noelle Knapp and Aaron Nathaniel Knapp - Lincoln, NE; three great-grandchildren - Gavin Michael, Adrianna and Corbin Austin Knapp; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Bruckner.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Sept. 14, at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery with Bro. Tim Cooper officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
