Franklin Roy Beydler, 73, formerly of El Dorado Springs, was born May 3, 1933, to Carl R. Beydler and Zelma Pace Beydler, the eldest of six children. He passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, after a short illness.
He attended grade schools in Jerico Springs and Kansas City, KS. He attended high School in El Dorado Springs and Stockton.
After high school, he went to work for Western Electric until the Kansas City flood of 1951. After the clean up was completed, he went back to work for Western Electric until he joined the army in February 1952, serving two years as a paratrooper. After the service, he resumed his job at Western Electric, retiring in 1984 with 33 years of service.
He liked to try everything. He took flying lessons for several months. He made several solo flights, getting lost a few times but always landing safely. However, due to his loss of hearing, he did not receive his certification.
He served as a reserve police officer on the Independence Police force for 17 years.
In the early 60s he owned a bakery in El Dorado Springs and in Stockton but with the distance between the bakery and his regular jobs in Kansas City, that didn’t pan out too well.
He always had a camper trailer of some sort. He would rather do his traveling that way than to fly on a commercial airline.
He enjoyed fishing most of all and had several different boats. He entered adult fishing tournaments with other Telephone Pioneers around Missouri and Kansas. He also volunteered with the kids’ fishing tournaments.
After he retired, he did some farming and raised cattle on the farm he bought from his folks where he had lived several years as a boy growing up. He volunteered with the Jerico Springs Fire Department for several years.
He volunteered with the Visiting Nurses and the Telephone Pioneers which included various activities. At Truman Lakewood Hospital, he assisted in testing newborns’ hearing and repairing wheelchairs.
He lived in the Neighborhood Council Chapel-20 of Independence and was an active member. He volunteered as a bank carrier, he delivered cars for Hertz and Avis to different areas and judged the best-decorated houses for Christmas. Frank’s most recent hobby was garage sales and going to swap-and-shops. He was a good salesman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Carl Jason Beydler; and son-in-law, Floyd Baxter.
He is survived by his wife, Joan – of the home; his four children – Janice Beydler – Independence, David Beydler and partner, Donna – Grain Valley, Dwight Beydler – Oak Grove, and Sandra Beydler – Henderson, NV; grandchildren – Matthew Beydler, Jodie Beydler and Frankie Beydler; and one step-grandson, Mikal Baxter; three brothers – William (Bill) Beydler, and wife, Carol – Laurel, MD, John Beydler, and wife, Leslie – Davenport, IA, and Richard Beydler, and wife, Christine – Stotts City; and two sisters, Nancy Dissler – El Dorado Springs, and Joyce (Jo) Piscatelli – Wheaton, MD.
Services were held Wednesday, April 28, in Earp Funeral Home, Independence. Final disposition cremation.
