Carol Jeanette (Samp) Jones, 76, Jasper, departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Carthage Health and Rehab after a lengthy illness.
Carol was born March 7, 1934, in Ipswich, SD, to Fred John and Bendena Elizabeth (Schutte) Samp.
She graduated from Ipswich High School in 1952 and then traveled to Missouri to attend Cottey College in Nevada on a music scholarship.
Carol spent a number of years either working or supervising in school cafeterias from Neosho to Butler, ending her career with retirement from the Jasper R-V Schools in 1988.
She married Cecil Edward Jones on June 26, 1953, at Jerico Springs. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 2008.
Carol enjoyed her family, her home and helping others in time of need. She loved cooking, sewing, reading and listening to music or playing the piano. She loved playing games and entertaining her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol especially loved the Lord and was a true inspiration in the way she served Him. She was saved and baptized in February of 1953 and joined Hazel Dell Missionary Baptist Church southeast of El Dorado Springs. She moved her membership in 1958 to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Avilla where she was still an active member.
In addition to her husband, Cecil Edward Jones, Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Howard Samp and Roy Samp.
Carol is survived by three children and their spouses - Sheila and David Smith - Cabot, AR, Cynthia and Lloyd Chapman – Jasper, and Kevin and Robin Jones - Lebanon; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Edward Nelson - San Angelo, TX; a sister-in-law, Beryl Samp - Aberdeen, SD; three grandsons - Robert and Brandi Chapman - Neck City, Jeff Chapman - Jasper, and Randall and Kariann Smith - Ward, AR; three great-grandchildren - Hunter, Gage and Kylie Chapman - Neck City; two nephews, Richard and Diana Heinemeyer - Denver, CO, and Ed Jr. and Patty Nelson - San Antonio, TX; two nieces, Lynn Nelson - Triangle, VA, and Lisa and Philip Cope - Charlotte, NC; and a host of extended family and friends including a sister-in-law, Geneva Miller - Lamar. Locally, Carol is survived by her husband’s brother and sister-in-law, Jerald and Janet Jones; and her husband’s sister, Pauline Bryant.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Chad Wagoner, Carthage Health and Rehab and Regional Hospice of Joplin, for the excellent care Mom received during her illness. They will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
Services were held on Friday, Dec. 10, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar. Brother Doyle Mayfield and Brother Norman Highley conducted the service with burial following in Hazel Dell Cemetery southeast of El Dorado Springs.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Regional Hospice in Joplin in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
