Elva Frances (Brown) Crockett, 93, Lamar, was born Aug. 31, 1917, to Leonard Hurley and Della Frances (Brous) Brown. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Dec. 4, 2010, at her home near Lamar.
She was a lifelong resident of rural Lamar except for brief periods of living in Carthage, Joplin, Western Kansas and Pensacola, FL.
Elva attended the Rose Branch School through the eighth grade. On May 14, 1944, she married Ralph Reed Crockett, then a sailor stationed at U.S. Naval Air Station, Bronson Field, Pensacola, FL. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 14, 1994.
Elva gave her life to the Lord during her teen years and was a present member of Bethel Church. She was a devoted housewife and mother who loved her children, her garden and her home. Her last wishes and prayers were for all her children and families to accept Christ and serve Him in a church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Reed Crockett, on Sept. 26, 1996; a daughter, Dixie Diane, on July 19, 1954; and a son, Dwight Dale Crockett, on Sept. 20, 2006.
Elva is survived by four sons – David Dean and Sharon Crockett, Daniel Gene and Connie Crockett, Donald Dwayne and Donna Crockett, and Darrell Dee and Prisilla Crockett – all of Lamar; a daughter-in-law, Joy Crocket, widow of son, Dwight Dale Crockett; four daughters – Dorothy Darlene and John Dunn – Lansing, KS, Daisy Delia and Darrell Reeder – El Dorado Springs, Delores Deane and Dale Peters and Dora Delle and Cole Rector – of Lamar; 33 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Brown – Lincolnton, NC; two sisters-in-law, Claudine Crockett – Lamar and Esther Brown – Roswell, GA; and many nieces nephews and a host of friends.
Services began at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Konantz-Warden Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar with Minister Ben Cross officiating. Special music by her granddaughter, Lori Dunn, was Listen To The Mockingbird. Congregational hymns were How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.
Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oakton. Pallbearers were Dwayne Crockett, Davy Crockett, Devin Crockett, Jason
Crockett, Scott Dunn and Matthews Peters.
Arrangements were under the direction of Konantz-Warden Funeral Home in Lamar.
